This used to be easy. Looking for a SIM card  for very occasional use (a few calls / texts a year) for a back up phone- but everything seems to be pay monthly/ cut off after a certain time type deals. Looking for topping up maybe 10/20 a year or so.

Been looking too, Lebara seems to be the answer, on Vodafone I believe, we may just get the daughter a £6 a month giffgaff one.

GiffGaff Payg sims just require you to make one paying call/text every six months to keep active. I have one on my bike/spare phone that I last added £10 credit four or five years ago that is still ok. They even let you know when you need to use it to keep it active

quite expensive per call or text but as I rarely use it that’s not a problem

I got one from Tesco the other day. Cheap enough. Simple to buy in store.

Most of the PAYG Sims require a call or text every 6 months to maintain the number.
