I have a pair of Mont Blanc roof bars for the 97-2000 era Ford Mondeo in the garage and I need to re-home them. Annoyingly they were only used a couple of river kayaking trips then I swapped cars.
I assume the foot packs are useless for other cars but can the bars be used on another car? I'm struggling to find the details.
Anyone want them?
Freecycle them? I keep meaning to do that with some roof bars I have.
You can usually mix and match bars and footpacks - not perfect, but generally OK.
Or, pop up for sale with the length of the bar stated.
We sold some old ones for a vw polo on FB marketplace
FB marketplace shifted our old roof bars
Ha, same issue here.. got some posh Thule Wingbar edge bars for a 3/4 series and some Yakima Tesla M3 bars that I can’t shift for love nor money.. stealth ad for anyone with those cars ^^^!
Think I had the Tesla bars up for £80 on various classifieds in the end (retail at £330!) and no one bit. I’ve spent a small fortune on bars over the years.. 🤦♂️
Anyone got any for a G31 5 series?
Another vote for FB Market place. Shifted the bars that used to be on our long since departed Subaru Outback which had a surprisingly narrow roof. Took a while to sell after a lot of enquires.
Anyone got any for a G31 5 series?
have you checked you can't re-use your wingbars and just put new feet on them? it might even be the same feed considering they're both bmw

As above, you can get a new footpack and use that, I picked up a new footpack for my F31 3 series. I now have two sets of bars and 3 sets of footpacks - one I don't even know what car it's for, I just wanted the bars.
I got a set of Audi ones supplied new with my Q5, 3.5 years ago. I have tried to sell them on various occasions, for as low as £30, to no avail. The car is being sold this week and the bars, in their original packaging, will be in the boot...
I was just about to post a new thread.... and I might do.
We change our cars every 2-4 years. We have Thule roof bars from roughly 2010. Thule have now said these bars are obsolete so I can not buy the foot packs needed for my latest car.
So the answer is to buy a full new system when these bars are perfectly good !
If anyone has a foot pack for a 2019 Merc E Class....

Check facebook ads, that's where I got my footpack - from someone who'd swapped car, kept the bars and got a new footpack. Ebay worth checking too. You just need to know what the OLD footpack reference for your car is (was)

They are 127cm bars - ideal for a variety of cars.
Does anyone have a pair of aero bars (ideally Thule) that are 118cm or 122cm long? I have shiny new foot pack, but struggling to find bars the correct length.

Yep - and I cant find a table that I can find this, any ideas?
roofbox.co.uk usually very helpful for stuff like this 🙂
Depends what e-class you have, is it saloon with fixed points or estate with flush bars
identify the NEW pack from that, then search to see what pack that replaces. You might need footpack and fitting kit, I think they're separate. It took me a while to find what I needed but i was lucky enough to have the correct footpack and just needed fitting kit - your existing footpack may be suitable
but yes, I get you, they don't make it easy and there was no way I was going to buy new all round
EDIT - I think this may be too old?

Thanks all, I think they are 117cm basic square steel bars but I'll measure them later on
If anyone wants them and are near Halifax or Hudds, come over and take them !
I've toyed with fitting some old ones I have got round to shifting to the wall & use as slidey racks.

though they may meet this criteria, @matt: I'll have a shufti later & report back

there's a set of 118 wingbar edge in the classifieds right now
Aye, tried the 3 series bars on the 5 series roof but it’s wider and they terminate in the foot pack with little room for manoeuvre, annoyingly one bar would work but the other won’t FFS (the 3 has identical length bars and the 5 are slightly different) and it’s flush rails compared to fixed mounting points.
Thule aren’t great at publishing info on older products once they stop making/selling them and therefore also don’t appear on roofbox anymore. Trying to understand cross compatibility is a nightmare in my experience.
Any top tips on getting discount/cash back on a new set of Thule bars from anywhere before I shell out another £300 on bars when I’ve a pile in the garage 🤦♂️
Cheers
@matt_outandabout if you’re interested in my Thule edge bars/feet let me know and I can measure them. Obviously less useable space than thru bars so depends what you’re needing to carry and of course the car! Cheers

Try Yakima. Better designs, cheaper. The Yakima aero/whispbar is the quietest on the market.
@nickewan - I do need the through bars, this is for canoe carrying . 😎
I usually freecycle, or FB marketplace for free stuff like this that I've had the use of and don't need anymore.
They go in minutes
