Anyone else getting really hacked off with the "we value your privacy " notification,  relentlessly popping up every 5 minutes (on my tablet)?  I'm logged in, but this still happens.  Is there any work around, or do we know when it is due to be "sorted"?

So much for having a P... I agree, it is properly annoying.

Doesn’t happen on mine. And I don’t have a ‘P’, Bob. I don’t get any ads to speak of, either.

I haven't seen that for bloody ages. Everything has seemed pretty good here for quite a while now.

I wonder if it is cookie related. Do you have your settings to delete cookies when you leave the browser?

I don't think so.  I get this relentless pop-up, what seems to be every few minutes on my tablet.

However, I don't seem to get this on my laptop, so maybe it is cookie related.  I've checked the settings - but not sure hat I should be looking at?  There's nothing obvious like "delete cookies on exiting sites"!

Maybe try clearing out all STW cookies?

Reset doesn't seem to have done anything.   As soon as the ads finish loading I seem to get the pop-up.  And it's relentless...

If you are getting the pop up it’s because the cookie is not being set on your device so it can’t find it when the page loads. Gdpr means we have to check on every page. Have you tried the clear cookies link at the bottom of the page?

Still getting spannered by the "value your privacy" popup on me moby, not on the laptop - cookies eviscerated as per Mark's tip above, fingers crossed! 🙂

I’m getting bombarded with Ads, which I believe were not meant to harass P users!  It’s making the website almost unusable on a mobile device now.

See this is the annoying thing!  I emailed the subscription team a month ago asking about my subscription, my mother in law has purchased me one.  But we have not received anything.  In fact that was a month ago

I get it too, it is probably a cookie thing but it's not working.

I cleared my cookies across chrome on all devices a while back, then it started happening, and won't stop (I've tried the singletrack cooke death link too),

Im finding site unusable on mobile as hyperlinks to threads are never where the text is while the page is jumping around loading shit-tons of ads. You cant go to the end of a thread with a single link from the Overview screen. You cant see who started a thread. You cant get an indication of who last posted on a thread with a hover on the desktop site. And you cant return to the overview screen with a link from the bottom of a thread. All in all navigation is now such a chore it's a shitfest. I can only really use the site on the computer now where the page miraculously renders a little more predictably. Ahem.

not as tedious as all the piss & vinegar threads from people moaning about a free forum.

Which in itself is but a minor irritation compared to gobshites posting on threads they're not interested in.

Since the site has been reconfigured none of us are getting the forum for free:

If you have a P you are their customer as you are paying directly for the service.

If you don't have a P then you are the product as STW are selling your page view to advertisers.

It's the way the internet has gone: subscription or ads are the only real way to make any website viable.  I'm amazed when people can't get their heads round this even after the GDPR issue, I know people who still think Facebook is free and doesn't harvest data!  I'm happy to be served appropriate and unobtrusive ads on nearly every site I use but here is unusable on my mobile as it sucks data, jumps about all lover the place and is just plain frustrating to use.  On my computer I have to use the thing we are not allowed to mention to control the ads to a bearable level but still get the embedded ones so I'm still a product that STW sell to advertisers, just not a very valuable one.

In a previous  thread, Mark spake thusly...

Ultimately, if you like this place then support it with actual cash. Your very presence is not nearly as lucrative as you may think.

https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/fancy-reading-this-thread/

If you ain’t payin you are worth almost nothing either as a viewer of ads or as a provider of free content.

I don’t know why I bother some days.

not on my iPadt but yes on my work desktop,

I open the forum page "WVYP', click okay,

I see a topic that looks interesting 'WVYP, click okay

Oh, it's actually a boring topic, back button to forum 'WVYP

Close window and look at another site instead.

As others have said, the "cookie death link" does not work.  I'm getting the WVYP pop-up every few seconds now and it's driving me nuts!  Surely,  if you have a login, why can't you click on something once during the login process, to acknowledge the GDPR process and the carry on unhindered.  The whole thing is ridiculous.   Please sort it out!?

Gdpr means we have to check on every page.

I understand that this an actual issue.

However.....

How come the whole rest of the internet manages to serve me pages without this ever happening more than once on each website?

Seems like something totally unique to STW (at least for me)

Every other site/forum I visit regularly, I clicked it once (ages ago) and I’ve never seen it again.

No matter what my settings are (I have no idea?) STW is the only place this happens. (And it’s about every 10 page loads I reckon?)

Hmm!

Update your OS, browser and make sure you don't have anything blocking any cookies for STW.

Plenty of people block all cookies by default. So what the site should be doing, is test if a cookie can be set, and if it can’t, it should assume they are opting out and not present any request

Reliance on the expectation of being able to set a cookie is poor design.

Not a very good advert for the Web page designer; I wouldn't be recommending them!

I've no idea but is that allowed with the GDPR rules to assume what the visitor like?

yes if they assume opt out to everything as default I think ( but not sure)  I have not seen any sites doing it this way tho

I also went thru the gdpr opt out on another site. 2 buttons to click to opt out of everything rather than the 60 odd on here  One button to opt out of all targeted advertising, one to opt out of all tracking cookies.  30 seconds to opt out rather than ages.

You only need to make any assumption if you're collecting data, placing cookies etc. You could just make it an opt in system and not collect data on people until the systems useable.

Saw it this morning.

"We value your privacy"

The four or five pages with 50+ checkboxes on them each (look at the size of the scrollbar handle on the second screenshot) suggest otherwise.

There should be a "Disallow All" option here.

"pre-selected companies"

Has anyone at STW has vetted these companies? Seems like they're just in the pool of trackers they're signed up to.

From "der government"

individuals need a mechanism that requires a deliberate action to opt in, as opposed to pre-ticked boxes. Although the GDPR doesn't specifically ban opt-out consent, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) says that opt-out options “are essentially the same as pre-ticked boxes, which are banned”

Indeed, I pointed that out when they first installed the privacy document.

Done nothing about it because they are hiding behind “we are using a service provider” for the GDPR Privacy Statement.

Doesnt take away the responsibility though does it 🤣

Service provider (StreamAMP) will almost certainly be able to enable the "Disallow All" button if asked.
