Mrs Diz has just bought a new dining room table and chairs. She wants to protect it, whilst still keeping its natural colour. After a quick google search tung oil looks like it might do the trick! Has anyone got any experience of using it or can anyone recommend other options.

I use osmo top oil. Very little colour change, hard wearing and food safe.

Have you bought it unfinished? I would say Osmo oil but it depends if it's been finished in something else first to determine whether it's suitable.

My BiL is a cabinet maker, he said to me "use any oil".

(EDIT) he appears to oficially sanction beeswax( http://www.dylanpym.co.uk/page/25/caring-for-furniture/)

Here's his website, he makes truly unique and fantastic stuff. If anyone in Essex/Suffolk fancies the August bank holiday show he puts on for local maker, don't be put off that I will be there helping out:

Yes it's unfinished. Looks like OSMO is the one to get, any tips on using it.

Thanks everyone.

Used osmo top oil on the oak worktops, great stuff. I used a rag rather than a brush as it's a big flat surface. May need to brush it on for detailed areas.
