Looking for a bit of advice as a tenant.
Our main source of heating (CH and DHW) is an oil fired Rayburn.
I know there is no legal obligation, as with gas appliances, to have an annual check but want to check were we stand. We have been in since February and before we turn it back on we would like a service as no record of any servicing. Landlords response (through the agent) is that he serviced it himself so it is fine...going on other plumbing and DIY bodges we have found (plumbers in 4 times now) we are a little concerned.
I know there are a few installation "issues" (e.g. tank in wooden wood shed) and the insides of this thing are a mess (baffles and thermostat just look chucked in). As far as I can work out it is a retrofit oil vapourising system and Rayburn state it should be serviced twice a year.
Not happy with the response we have had we are going to get it serviced ourselves (OFTEC technician) before we turn it back on, but wondering where we stand if the technician finds problems.
Not really sure, but servicing an oil boiler basically consists of changing the jet and hoovering it out!
Mate has an oil aga and does his own servicing (as a surgeon he could very easily afford to have it serviced).
