Last week I was doing some DIY/decorating in our main bathroom. There were a couple of loose tiles so I lifted them and uncovered a leak – nothing too serious and I think I have sorted it.

However...
Whilst the bathroom was out of order, one of our daughters went for a shower in our en-suite. She decided to sit down and managed to sit right over the plug and was blissfully unaware that the whole en-suite was slowly filling with water, which then started to seep into our bedroom, all over the carpet and eventually started to run through the ceiling and leaked into the kitchen and utility room below, water-damaging both ceilings.

This was the same daughter that was involved in our recent holiday home bathroom ceiling leak.

Really FFS

Oh god. Hopefully it will dry out enough not to need major re-decoration.

I think I'd be after a refund for the daughter to be honest

Sue her against future earnings - with compounding interest of course.

Wouldn't it be ironic if it costs me £264 in time and materials to make good the damage.

She's about to turn 14 – she had just had some bad news and was sitting there crying, completely unaware of what was unfolding.

That’s a LOT of tears!

Being told her part-loan horse agreement was being cut short *IS* very upsetting to a horse-obsessed child. 🤣

I've got a daughter of the same age. The capacity for mayhem is incredible!

keep hearing stories of plumbing disasters and think I really should invest in some of these, apparently they work really well! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aqara-Xiaomi-Wassersensor-Apple-Homekit-White/dp/B07D39MSZS/ref=asc_df_B07D39MSZS/

Shouldn't be too hard to find a replacement loan horse - lots get put up at this time of year as kids get ready to go to uni and don't have time for them. But don't want to sell either.

Yeah she knows this but that particular horse worked well – a great horse and the owner has a daughter of a similar age so they are happy to take the horse to local competitions for us (as their daughter usually competes at the same events).

Sitting down in the shower is....odd, but it's amazing how fast a blocked shower tray actually fills up!

I am known for super speedy showers, but my wife's radiant locks had obviously blocked the drain (she's usually fastidious about removing it), and I looked down just in time to see that there was very little freeboard left in the shower tray. Thankfully I noticed, but also thankfully it's not up stairs either.

Yep - especially when it's a mains-pressure shower.

Anyway - you sure this isn't a complicated ruse to get you to buy the horse!? 🙂

My daughter loaned a horse once - a year later we owned the ruddy thing! Owner needed to sell for x,y,z reasons - heart strings pulled!

We were in Annecy on holiday last year. I went for a shower, turned it on but then went to use the toilet. While sitting on the pan I noticed water coming out the bottom of the shower door. Jumped up and quickly shut it off. Clocked that the drain was very slow so let it drain and jumped in for a very quick shower.

The missus went in after me and I forgot to mention the drain. She went for one of her usual 20 minute showers oblivious to the probable knee deep water that was building up. She finished and proceeded to open the shower door and unleash a tsunami across the entire bathroom and out into the bedroom🫣

We won't do that – she's bad enough at not revising/doing homework etc with all her part-loan stuff, helping out at another stables and riding lessons as it is, without adding further time with horses.
