I found myself in France with no passport (long story short... i lost my passport just before a holiday and smuggled myself abroad - bad idea, but all worked out)

I just showed up for the ferry, showed them my drivers' license and said I had lost my passport abroad... they let me on no bother.

I would advise you to show up, have some photo id on you and tell the truth. They are humans, and should be capable of some compassion (unlike US homeland security drones, who are evil automatons).

His drivers license or even a credit card will prob be fine (although I think the border guards usually prefer a cash bribe.)

Don't let him know this though, tell him you'll help gaffer tape him to the bottom of a truck in a layby in Calais.

tell them he'd be persecuted if he was sent back and so he'll be let in, given lots of cash for a cushy lifestyle and then able to sue anyone with legal aid cos they looked at him funny.

All these "should be OK" posts seem to assume he's white.

I was on the verge of typing, "depends if he has a beard and turban" but decided against it.

Oops.

If you can prove who you are they should let you back in your own country one would think ? The problem is likely to be the chunnel operators, they have a legal obligation to make sure their passengars have right of entry.

I've watched a guy go through UK, french and swiss customs with his brothers passport (his had expired so he borrowed his brothers). The guy was 60 kilos wet through and his brother was I would guess, about 3 tons. Even after careful examination of the photograph at Geneva the guy still got through no questions asked.

Me? I'd just chance it, or as above, get it rushed through with a courier.
