The bloody dog decided to barge past me on the stairs. That's a good couple of hours of my life wasted. Cheers Max you blasted pooch ; )
I would say that that's no reason to screw it 😀
Pooch looking at stairs wondering why human left those there...and checking STW later to have a look at dog thread;)
@Ambrose you were relying on the little white button to hold it shut again, couldn’t be bothered to do up the clips? And to blame the dog? Lower than a snake’s belly!
OP
A Piss poor rant, you need to level up
A magnet in a sock for anything steel, then hands and knees for the plastic.
Think of it as an opportunity for a bit of zen calm - like doing a jigsaw puzzle.
In my impoverished art student days when I needed a lot of fixings for sculptures but couldn't afford them there was a stall on the rag market that sold bulk bags of mixed screws - presumably there had been a factory / warehouse scale screw-jumbling incident at some point.
So I'd buy a kilo bag for a few pence and spend an afternoon sorting them. I actually started to really like doing it.
Less fun is doing the 'picking up the screw case without making sure the lid is shut thing' as I pulled it out the back of my car and spilled the contents across muddy gravel, in the dark, in the rain and had to fastidiously make sure I found them all because... thats where I park my car. In that moment I would have bought a dog just so I could blame it.
Make sure you walk up and down the stairs bare foot afterwards to find the screws you've missed!
I have a couple of those boxes, one full of Reisser and Spax, all properly sorted, the other with different fixings.
Mrs BigJohn, who takes and borrows all my other tools and consumables knows that those boxes are off limits. The catches are ALWAYS done up now, after what I thought at the time was a minor jolt which resulted in a 40mm screw finding itself in a group of 30mms while fixing one 18mm board to another high gloss facia 18mm board.
I've done the magnet for this type of thing before but never thought of putting it in a sock. Cheers for that, I'll safely file it away for future reference 'cos this is bound to happen in my garage at some point.
I've done that, right outside the front door !
I must invite you to our Monday evening sorting out 1 acme ton of Lego into the sets
Take the brush bit off the vacuum cleaner and tape a sock over the end so the toe bit of the sock gets sucked into the pipe. Vacuum your stairs and all the screws and plastic bits get sucked up and trapped in the sock.
Remove the screw filled sock and beat the dog with it, or use a magnet to separate the screws from the plastic.
I did similar once, 3am callout, customers driveway. I swept the lot up and threw it randomly in the box.
More recently, actually probably 12 years ago, I went round a corner a bit quickly and the racking in my van ripped the fixings out of the steel.
It had lots of nicely organised bins M4-M10 Bolts, Zeb's, nuts, screws, plugs, conduit bits etc.
Sounded an utter calamity. I opened the back doors and it looked like a grenade had gone off. Never had racking since.
So I'd buy a kilo bag for a few pence and spend an afternoon sorting them. I actually started to really like doing it.
I think you'd really enjoy tidying my shed for me, want to give it a shot?
On one level can’t blame max but I see your points
