Not jeans
Not jeans style pockets
Crease down the front or not?
Clothing shops need to have a 'approved for office use' label or something.
Sorry, what's the question?!
Uniqlo chinos, work trouser of choice for me. Smart for the office, cheap enough not to be worried if I end up doing some grotty work in them.
Whatever TK Maxx has that fits the criteria at the time. That's my approach, anyway.
Edit: Although thinking about it, I can see the merits of those trousers gobuchul has kindly depicted, above.
Hiding poor shoe choice, like those resembling pasties, beloved of History or Maths teachers?
Keith Lemon tribute days?
Oedema of the lower leg?
Wind-assist when skateboarding in to work?
You're right! Plenty of merits.
I go the boring route- black suit-style trousers from wherever I happen to be passing. I bought a load from that source of quality, Topshop, a while back and I just throw them away whenever they show wear or damage because they cost about £15 a pop- they look and work perfectly well while they're fresh
Question was - do they need to have a crease to be considered smart?
When I'm in charge, clothing manufacturers will be forced to categorise their clothes, like we do for energy efficiency. So A is the smartest, a pinstripe suit, through to F which is a ten year old wolf T-shirt, dirty black jeans, no shoes and socks with holes in.
Each workplace would then be able to say what smartness grade is required, with a sign on the door like the energy one.
Crease is smarter imo, both may be acceptable depending on office norm
Levi Dockers - cheap if bought in US
Good tip for those trousers. I can probably get some sent over.

mmm When I'm in charge people will be able to wear their jeans to the office if they wish. Trousers and suits honestly it's not a 1980's nightclub!
Creases down the front = ironing nightmare.
All my "smart" work trousers now resemble concertinas. Grrr.
Got these in the end. Partly creased from the shop but I don't think they are meant to be so I ironed it out. Much comfier than suit trousers and better for lounging.
I don't know why they are comfier than the suit trousers though. The are a little tighter on the thigh but there is something about the way the suit trousers move when I try to lounge around that makes them uncomfortable. Or maybe its subconscious awareness that they are 'smart' and hence I have to be more careful.
Marks & Spencer washable. Perfect for everything.
Bit early in the year for trousers at work? I'm normally in shorts till December....

I can do everything that I do in jeans in a pair of suit trousers too. A well fitting suit (and therefore the trousers) is as comfortable as anything. Oddly I've never been told that I can't visit a client through being too smart.
uniqlo or gap chinos looks fine with a shirt, and no need for ironing
Next chino's do the trick
I quite like Levi's dockers, might not fit the ops jeans style pocket caveat though
If you don't want jeans style trousers then they will have a crease in them. Tip: when hanging them out to dry, smooth them out with your hands and they dry the creases back in the right place.
Next trousers last longer than the other high St options (never bought from m&s though because they don't fit)
Our office has a casual policy 🙂
Ah, Gap.. good place to try. I'm now determined to extend my work wardrobe after suddenly finding myself sick to death of what I wearing.
Of course they should have a crease!
A middle aged man like yourself should not be wearing jeans, who do hou think you are? Clarkson?
Shoes must be black laceup and shiny.
Chinos are for after work or weekend s
Standards my good chap.
That's the first time I've been compared to Clarkson....
Gap outlet and go mental on cheap khakis 😀 I Got 4 pairs for £26!! (I love khakis IMHO they are so much comfier than jeans)
Yeah they are khaki though!
M&S simple there is an entire department of sensibly priced black work trousers.
Wear what you want unless they supply a uniform otherwise they are violating your human rights
I went from having 4 or 5 suits down to 1 in the last 12 months. I now wear jeans and chinos to work and keep suits for meetings with legal and financial people.
I don't see the need for "smart" trousers anymore, they look dated.
Don't get me started on ties.
HebTroCo are supposed to be making some more office friendly trousers. Apart from that have a look at TK Maxx online, you can pick up Levis Chinos for around £25.
Yeah they are khaki though!
😆 Mine aren't (It's what they're called).

I value my job more than I value wearing jeans. Getting work clothes I actually like is what I call a mutually acceptable solution.
Also bought 6 new shirts online that I actually like, so really looking forward to a new office wardrobe quite significantly 🙂
Have you considered asking your mom?
I can do everything that I do in jeans in a pair of suit trousers too.
This. My suit trousers are more comfortable than my jeans, especially in the hot and humid weather we've been having recently.
It is amazing how the millennials whine about everything. Companies employ you ... as they pay you, they can can set a dress code.
If they want to specify not t shirts and no jeans than just learn to deal with it. It is all part of life ....
It's amazing about how old gits moan about everything. Just come asking a pretty innocuous question and you get the same old 'kids these days' bollocks.
Tesco do some nice ones with what I call a buffet waist. They look like normal trees but they've got some hidden elastic which is handy after a lunchtime curry buffet session.
Bit like the youngies moaning that they've it bad/ can't buy houses/ it's so boring then ... 😀
The M&S ones have that. For me it's useful the other way round as I can cinch the waist in on a size large enough to cover my large arse without creating uncomfortable rumples in the waistband.
