Going for a weekend break with wifecoops on friday. Got Reichstag visit booked and a couple of suggestions from mates but fancy something strange and berlinised that may not be in the guide books. Whats good?

Schwarze cafe on kantstrasse for breakfast. Spelling may be off but it's near the zoo to the west of the teir garden. I cannot emphasise how amazing it is.

look up the "hidden" cocktail bars in Berlin - theres a few lists of them around on buzzfeed and the like.

There is also a former watch tower that you can climb up. Head to Potsdamer Platz and find a little street called Erna-Berger-Straße

Absolutely superb guided tour of a network of underground WW2 bomb shelters.

the old Stasi prison. quite harrowing. the guides are former inmates.

boat ride on the canals/Spree.

a walk around Friedrichshain... a bit edgy, but some nice bars. just keep an eye on your wallet and don't go down dark alleys. good place to pick up drugs, too, if that's your thing.

Wish I had known about the tunnel tours last time I was there, they look awesome. Second a vote for Spreewald and either bikes or kayaks down the canals, though at this time of year it might be a bit nippy!

After/before the Reichstag make sure you have a wander through the Tiergarten as its a beautiful park. Also again not sure if its winter suitable but the abandoned airport/park sounds pretty interesting, Templehof I think?

Just wander round looking at the bullet holes in the walls... Mindblowing.
