hi folks,

I'm off to Mallorca in the summer for a week with the family, and looking into hiring bikes for some off-road day-trips in the north of the island.

Any recommendations in partcular? We'll be based in Pollença, it'll be hot, we're there in July, but some nice day's out on tracks and paths will amuse me and my son!

Many thanks in advance.

cheers,

Keith

No idea really but have seen people on MTB heading off-road around the col de sa batella

I’m flying out there and staying up the road from Pollenca for a week tomorrow.
I’ll be riding the road bike this time but will be looking for some trail routes in the shops for next visit. If I see anything I’ll stick it here.
Komoot has a few nice off road routes from Pollenca and Alcudia that look ok too.

mant thanks for the replies, I also came across this

https://www.mallorcagravel.com/mallorca-gravel-routes/

and have ordered a map of routes too,

"Mountainbikekarte Mallorca (Kartenset mit Nord + Süd-Blatt): Mountainbike-Routen in der Serra Tramuntana"

which looks quite good 🙂

cheers,

Keith

You will curse the heat in July, freezing the drink overnight melts so quick, maybe get up at 4am

What kind of bikes are you gonna be on?

I did a few rides last summer on a rented gravel bikes that took in some fun bits of Singletrack and fire roads from around the Alcudia area. Can send screenshots/GPXs through if you want?

yep @redmex early mornings I think will be the order of the day, which will suit my son as he's an early bird, and it'll be quieter out and about then too 🙂

This!

I left pre sunrise for every ride and was mostly back before it go brutally hot apart from one 100km+ plus ride where I returned around midday and basically had to sprint the last 15km back to catch a boat trip. Was half dead by the time I got back.

Hmmm, I can’t seem to get an image to work - might be easier if you pm me your email and I can send it all through that way.

I’ve e-biked in Tramuntana area but the climbs are very very technical, steep, rocky and long hence going with an ebike. After a couple of days I did the climbs on road e.g Puig Major and then off road back down the hiking trails from the reservoir. Best to do early for heat but also a lot of the trails are hiking only with bikes banned.

Further north it’s a little more gentle but just be mindful if you decide to go into the Tramuntana mountains it can get challenging. I enjoyed the riding but would stick to road next time.

thanks @tonyf1 -- my maps have arrived ("Mallorca MTB-Karte") and I'm looking at some of the lower level routes, around Pollenca, Alcudia, Cala de Sant Vicenc, which perhaps will be good for starters to see how we get on before trying anything too ambitious, especially in the summer heat!
