My new commute takes me quite a bit off road (90%) Bridal ways (very bumpy) gravel roads and a woodland pathways. Currently doing it on my CX bike. I mainly use my OMM 20l for the ride, but sometimes I need to carry a laptop, and feel the protection isn't enough for the laptop. The commute is only 45 mins, should I suck it up, or can you recommend something else?

I use one of these:

It's waterproof, hi-vis (well, mine is) and holds the laptop securely in a sleeve so it doesn't bounce around.

Do you really want to wear a backpack for that long? - I use a Carradice SQR Slim which holds my laptop, accesories plus some small clothes.

Osprey Escapist is big and comfy - I've worn mine for some long off road rides (HT550, Lakeland 200 etc.) as well as the commute.

That Carradice slim looks great @Cletus. How does it ride? Can it take bumps well? Doesn't your laptop get a bit shaken?

Saddle bag is going to be way more abusive to a laptop over rough ground than a rucksack as you don't have the benefit of arms and legs suspension.

I have a Carradice SQR slim, I personally wouldn’t use if for laptop carrying off road.

Ive ended up with an Osprey Syncro 20 with a dry bag. Spare charger, one left at the office, the other at home.

I've been using a Kriega R15 for the last 10 years, superb quality, not cheap but it still looks like new after all this time.

Me too, it’s crazy hardwearing as well, I ‘ve had mine in use daily for years.

It’s also just the right size that you can’t get too carried away with overloading and is very comfortable.

I have the blue one.
