You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
they perform and important service, give you the necessary reaction time to hit play when you're FFing the ads at 32x. Programs without idents - unless you're very very quick - tend to need a bit of backtracking when you skip the first 20secs of your program.I find the channel 'idents' as annoying as the adverts tbh.
Any advert that features men with beards, audis, trivago, shiteland, perfume or any other bloocks they're trying to punt me. Can all **** right off.
end to need a bit of backtracking when you skip the first 20secs of your program.
Interestingly, the Virgin Tivo box have this a feature, so it rolls back a little when to stop the fast forward. The faster you're going the longer it rolls back.
Good point DONK.
The ones that really annoy me though are the little 'idents' that are broadcast in the top corner of the screen DURING THE ****ING PROGRAMME!
Started with SKY iirc.
yep, DONK +1
Long live idents.
I almost never watch live tv. I set the computer to record series or programs I want to watch, then blast through the ads on the +30s skip (8x presses on ITV, 10x on Channel 5 BTW 😉 )
Idents give you a buffer to land on.
I purposefully build a buffer into any transmissions I want to watch as they go out. GO my Humux box on a 2min skip feature to deal with the ads.
I don't mind paying my Licence fee to avoid being pushed unnecessary guff, the Sainsbury Ad evoking the WW1 Xmas truce is just such processed shite. They should donate to the Charity anyway not just to offset the obvious crassness of their campaign.
It's very easy to be a critic.
Don't like this, don't like that etc.
What makes a good advert then?
Something that you would enjoy watching and possibly go out and buy that product?
It is rather confusing to watch TV without idents, as in the US - at least they don't have them during the programme. So it jumps from ad to show to ad to show to news bulletin to ads and everyone's so well groomed and plastic looking that sometimes it all ends up looking the same.
We've always had pre/post programme idents:

Spinning BBC globe etc.
But only since SKY entered the market have we had a little logo in the top corner of the screen constantly reminding you of the channel you're watching.
Now common and intensely annoying on many channels.

Fair enough, it's easy to be a critic, but I had to think for a minute before any ads I actually liked sprung to mind.
We just mute them when they come on.
Works well for me too.
Just been catching up on all the old Boddies ads on Youtube.
One word..........WOWCHER
When that comes on I wish I was deaf and blind(Only temporarily mind)
Sorry - cant hate the Shell advert. I've just watched it twice 🙂

Anyone seen the Breitling one with the two 'fighter pilots'? I almost had to rub my eyes to believe it'd actually happened in from of me.
Yup, I actually thought it was a spoof...
It's beyond awful.

That's one of the ones I like. Now I just need to figure out where to buy some a get drunk on it.....turn myself into a Ferrari. At least I think that's what it's about.
Edit - never mind.
Or framing guitars
Eeer, careful. I happen to know a bloke with 25, and you don't want to annoy him on this site 😉
Any of the Lloyd's or British gas adverts with twee little people living twee little lives whilst the giants of corporate reassurance keep us in check.
Subversion at its best.

Those get played and tinkered with though, they don't sit in glass boxes or frames 🙂
Edit: I guess even starred out swears can get a post deleted if there aren't enough asterisks. So, I think "what a **** ****" whenever I see this:
There all flimflam, after a point just soaking up money that could have been used to make product better/cheaper. Serial offenders are perfume/slap makers, car manufacturers and finance/insurers.
What did you do today at work, Daddy?
I lied about things.....
Not such a great story is it?
Current bugbear is TSB, it wasn't that long ago that banks were selling people mortgages that didn't suit. Hmmmm....
Any add with that money grabbing ***** Carol Vorderman.
All the gambling ads are awful.
Actually this is the main one, all advertising is on some level a bit of a lie, but the advertising industry paints a completely bizarre image of online gambling: sexy people living sexy lives which seem to centre around an addiction to online gambling, but they keep on winning, this can't be the truth can it? I have a mental image of sad, lonely people, sat in the boozer, pissing their money away via their mobile, wishing someone would snatch the thing away and slap them till the urge to gamble subsided...
Closely followed by pay day lenders, who Is assume swoop in once the online casino has done their damage...
Utterly remorseless glittery IMO...
I've got to say that I'd be pretty forlorn if I thought that a tv ad was touching me on a deeply emotional level

Well I can only aspire to your Buddha-esque levels of inner peace and tranquility. I let things annoy me. Sometimes I even let out an audible tut.
I'm like the ****ing Dalai Lama mate
I'm like the.. Whatever the opposite of that is.
Adverts are on TV as I write this, I've neatly avoided paying attention to them by reading four pages of adults whining on the Internet about how adverts are, apparently, ruining their lives.
It's a strange old world. 🙄

Adults? Really? Here? Where?
extra 10% off crc in thier xmas shop cant be bad
I'm a mute-r too. Just cuts out all that irritating noise.
And I forgive Hugh Laurie, as he basically gets L'oreal to donate money to comic relief.
About those l'oreal ads
who is he?
He's Nick Youngquest. Aussie bloke. Played rugby league (proper rugby) for a number of clubs in Australia then Castleford before taking up modelling. Not the best player, pretty average, better model.
The Nespresso ads with clooney are just awful.
funnily enough these arent shown in the US, he is only a Nespresso "Ambassador" here, his US image isnt tarnished by overpriced instant coffee in his home market.
The Audi gramophone ad is so bad it's like a spoof, but I quite like the "baddies drive Jags" ad as (to me, at least) it's not taking itself too seriously.
I genuinely dont get the Southern Comfort old dude in budgie smugglers ad- its certainly not aspirational so I can only guess that its selling being an individual, and drinking So Co gives you this?
I hate all the pseudo-science in beauty products (my standard lines its "it contains radioactive monkey sp*nk"), and the nonsensical statistical claims. "Covers up to 100% of grey hair"; it's impossible to cover more than 100% and if it only covers 20% of your hair its still fulfilled the claim.
