Hi, Looking to possibly move away from Octopus and fix a tariff elsewhere for elderly parent.
Using Money Saving Expert Energy Club advice but wanted to check if she would get charged anything for moving (from a variable tariff so no exit fee) to a different provider?
Also, will the new provider be able to get readings from meters installed by Octopus?
Thanks
For the first question, it would seem unlikely. For the second, it should just hand over but you could always submit manual readings if you're concerned.
Why move from Octopus though? They're the best of a bad bunch and offer fixed-rate tariffs (I got an email about it yesterday).
@Cougar - thanks for the reply, yeah also received email from them offering fixed rate which just happens to be what we're currently paying.
When I've put the annual consumption (and conservatively over-estimated this) into the Money Saving Expert Energy Club it is quoting providers almost £30 per month less than what Octopus are charging.
Huh. Right, fair enough.
If it is a blue-ringed octopus I would move away from it pretty sharpish.
As far as I know I've never met an octopus smart enough to use a smart meter, however, there could always an exception, particularly in coastal waters of the Mediterranean Amalfi Coast region.

Do you mind saying who? And are they quoting a fix, or current (pre April 1) tariff?
The whole point of the email from octopus is to give you the option of fixing at your current rate ahead of the price rise. Could probably be communicated better though by showing what the cost post April 1st will be on your current tariff.
