Getting really frustrated with some injector issues on my Octavia, and wondering if anyone has any suggestions/thoughts as I know there are some people on here with good car knowledge. Asked over on Briskoda too.

'09 facelift MK2 2.0 PD140 BKD engine, 160k miles.

Back in March the car started running really rough (felt like running on 3 cylinders), but only periodically, sometimes turning it off and on again would stop the rough running and it'd be fine for a while. When running rough it had no power and was shuddering. Garage diagnosed and fitted a new injector loom, seemed to fix the issue.

Car was then SORNed while I worked from home over lockdown. Put it back on the road at the start of Sep. Did 300 trouble free miles, car running normally. Then the same issue started again. Basic OBD scanner showed P0202 error code, problem with injector/circuit on cylinder 2. New injector was quoted the best part of £600, so found a supposedly tested second hand one and had that fitted. Ran fine for 5 miles then same issue began again, that's where I am now, with the P0202 code present again. Any thoughts on the issue would be appreciated, I'm right at the extent of my car knowledge now.

- New loom was a dud?
- Second hand injector was a dud?
- Some other issue that the basic OBD reader isn't showing?
- Problem with the fuel filter/lines to the number 2 injector?
- How long is a piece of string?

Cheers.

the PD injector system is great but very very expensive to mend. some guesses of mine.

sensor fault ?
fuel filter gummed up ? changing it is diy. do it anyway.
camshaft wear ? If the wrong oil has been used the entire cylinder head can be scrap very quickly.
the thrash it like mad italian tune up wont do any harm

Swap injectors around and see if the problem is still reported as 2.

It wouldn't surprise me if it said injector 2 when it's another injector, or another issue.

Also I'd get a refurb injector from somewhere that specialises rather than a random 'it's working mate' injector, usually about £70-100 notes, sometimes exchange only.

Good stuff, cheers. I've got a new fuel filter that I hadn't got round to fitting, so no harm starting with that. Then swapping injectors around will be next on the list.

The PD engine doesnt have normal injectors, they are driven by the camshaft, hence the requirement for special lubrication. They are also very expensive, £800 each new or thereabouts iirc. On the plus side they usually last almost forever so my best guess is that the fault lies with something other than the injector. If lubrication at all suspect check camshaft lobes for signs of wear.
These engines MUST use PD specific oil, there is some extra lubricant in it, but no=one is telling what.

I think swapping them around is an excellent test, I dont know whats involved in removing one from the car as Ive never had to do it, but its likely to turn into a major faff. Might have to take out camshaft and timing belt, so worth replacing the latter kit. If it were me Id be investigating possible sensor faults first, as they will be relatively easy to replace and a lot less dosh.

Defo get advice from Briskoda and other VW forums. Lots of "dubberz" are only interested in bling, silly wheels etc, those are best ignored, they rarely know what they are talking about.

Good luck !

I am not sure if your car is diesel and this is of no use but my petrol car felt like it was running on 3 cylinders and it was an ignition module at fault.it was intermittent.happened after the engine had warmed up.
