Just moved house and we're in the process of decorating etc. I'm having new internal doors fitted this weekend and was going to stick with the original white ones albeit in a nicer looking design.

The more I look at oak doors etc the more I like the look of them, obviously there's the extra cost involved but I'm only doing it once so can look past that (a bit). I'm more worried about the maintenance side of them, with three kids etc I'm worried they will need varnishing every other week.

I'm hoping I'd get away with a yearly matt varnish, or will they be hard work? Am I better off sticking to glossed doors?

Thanks.

Bourne Traffic Liquid Wax FTW.

Easy to apply, tough, long lasting, neutral / clear, so won't cause change of patina and will highlight the grain nicely. I used this on all of the internal ledge and brace oak doors in my sisters house a number of years ago and they haven't really required doing since.

decoration wise they will be fine, but if they get dented, badly scratched or chip from the kids then they cant be filled and painted to look new again.

I can deal with dents with a steam iron, done it for years on my gun stocks. It's just the thought of constant sanding/varnishing putting me off.

Will have a look at Bourne liquid thanks sa and I'm sure I have some aluminium chequer plate at work 😀
