I had a pair of 'normal' glasses that were transitions about a decade ago and tbh they were just annoying. They went sort of dark most of the time and took a while to do so. What are the newer transition lenses like? Use persimmon for everything at the moment, but bit light for sunny days on road bike and bit dark for mtb in woods in the winter. Something that went from yellow to pretty dark would be great esp if they could do it relatively swiftly.

I've got a pair of persimmon/black iridium Oakleys (Eyewear Outlet, Flak Jacket XLJ) that I've only had a few rides on so far. Previously riding on Speciailized Adaptalites. The Oakleys go a lot darker than the adaptalites *but* also don't go as light. I've not worked out whether that's going to be a problem in forests/low light yet as I've not had them long enough. Both change quickly enough that it's not a problem (you might not want to go from bright sunlight into dark trees at speed but unless you're racing I can't see that being a problem. You don't notice them change - they're just comfortable.

Oakley now do a completely magic lens that goes from clear to black. Personally I like a bit an orange tint for skiing or riding in low light but if you find your persimmon a bit dark that might be the answer. Otherwise the V50(?) pink transitions lenses look lighter than the persimmon.

All reactors ae alot better than years ago, as with all tings the technology has moved on,most go dark pretty quick now, but take a while longer to come back to light, they haven't got over the working better on a cold bright day than warm day yet, but essilor have now achieved a lense called transiton extra active which (only available in grey atm) which goes alot darker than any available b4 and also works to about a 50% level in a car, this lense can be done as plano or prescription into almost any frame with the right base curve option, you'd prob need to see a local optician for price details or PM me if you want more info

Does anyone know if the Oakley transitions work in the car? Think I read somewhere that they don't react because of the light being filtered by the slightly tinted windows. I don't mind if they don't go to full darkness, but if they don't go light that would be a pain

I'm pretty sure that in the car they just stay.light as the UV is filtered.m out by the car windows.

Can anyone with experience of using transitions for driving confirm this?

Transitions DO NOT work in the car. I have some other prescription sunnies for driving.

FWIW, I night ride in mine, they seem to go clear enough.

I've bought the transition Jawbones for road riding. Not received them yet but have read they don't work in the car

Not a problem for me as Oakleys are for sports...and Ray Bans for posing 😉

Got mine from CRC using the 10% off voucher
