I've seen it reported that O2 networks are down for data but ok for phone calls, well not in the sunny lands of Mid-Cheshire they're not!!

Good to know! I installed an android update last night and now it won't connect to the network. Spent a while trying to solve, was just shifting a load of photos in preparation for a factory reset.

Happy to let it go and wait for the network now, ta!

You didn't need mobiles back in 1973 before we joined the EEC, get a bit of that blitz spirit and go dig for victory in your allotments. Or something like that.

Some global software related issue apparently, affecting other providers in other countries

Worst possible day for this to happen to me.... .Supposed to be exchanging contracts on my house sale today. Couldn't get on my e-mails due to no 4G all morning which was stressfull.

Eventually I get onto works wifi (usually reserved for the Elite). Then I receive a facebook message from my buyer but works wifi blocks facebook and now I can't get on it to read it or reply.

BOOOOOO

O2 are experiencing global outages predominantly affecting 2G, 3G and 4G data frequencies.

It is now reported that this is sporadically affecting voice calls and SMS. O2s technical teams are working on resolving the issue.

I don't think this is regional. I have two O2 phones here, one is showing no service and the other is fine. Unfortunately the one with no service is my work phone.

Yeah, I wondered why he needed a van to typeset a document too.

(I suspect a few people on here might even get that 😉 )

Apparently an out of date certification issue within equipment supplied by Ericsson, affected SoftBank in Japan, possibly other networks in the US.
Also affected TfL bus route markers in London, taxis, all sorts of payment issues, both for customers and businesses whose systems communicate via O2.
It cause us some problems at work, the tablets we use to do checks and appraisal on the cars we have, and to change internal storage locations on site mostly use Wi-fi, it’s horribly flaky, will only work in some locations, etc, so we have several 4G ones. Which meant having to use the shonky bloody Wi-fi all day.
Doesn’t help that they’re Samsung Tablet A devices, and they’re crap, useless software, and the bloody things don’t even have a flash for the camera, really handy when having to photograph a car that’s just arrived on site when it’s dark. The Wi-fi issues are likely down to the tablets as well.

I had to laugh when I read it was an expired SSL cert, somebody's going to be in trouble. They have my sympathy though, I used to be responsible for renewing certs across quite a few clients myself and it's a PITA

From what I read it was some Ericsson network equipment rather than O2 themselves that had the fault:

Funny reading the O2 twitter feed (on WiFi) - all the entitled-ones demanding compensation, as well as claiming that their lives have been endangered, businesses ruined. The only person with less clue about Plan B must be Theresa May.
