So I saw an ad last night claiming Nutella is good and has slow releasing energy' claim.....
Like ****. So I googled and this popped up...seems they have previous 'form'
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/feb/27/asa.advertising1
I wonder how many thick parents are buying into their claims etc?
Jan Ulrich used to drink it, oh well - might be worth looking into it hora?
Nutella and Jam sarnies before road rides are ace - i believe them 🙂
Hora - did you read that article?
Hora - did you read that article?
I am going to go out on a limb, and guess he only read the preview on google. As a result he missed this bit:
The Advertising Standards Authority agreed with Ferrero on the first two points and dismissed the complaints.
However, on the third point, the ASA said the ad implied Nutella made a "more significant nutritional contribution to a balanced breakfast than was the case".
Did you see the ad yesterday? Even mrsHora commented that the ad was weighted heavily towards nutrition. Which backs up the previous.
I don't know if you know how self-regulation works in the advertising industry but it seems Nutella (as essentially a foreign company) are pushing abit..
Every cyclist should try the Ulrich method at least once in their life after a hard ride. Even better than eating jam from the jar when needing a hit of sugar!
Nutella is glorious FACT.
soon everything will be measured on a scale of Nutella where happiness is
Take me to bed now and do rude, possibly illegal things to me with nutella, and unhappy is We have no nutella, I may have to kill some-one.
watch this space
A big spoonful of Nutella in porridge is yum.
I still watching this space.
When's the illegal Nutella action starting?
I don't have Nutella in the house, for the same reason I don't have crack cocaine in the house.
Ferrero Rocher is the gateway drug, I used to split 'em in half and lick out all the gooey innards(*) until I discovered you could buy it in jars.
(* - Easy now, Emsz.)
nutella guarantees that "new" forks won't break within a month of you having them.
hora...
soon, Ian.
You could try some yourself, buy a jar, nod suggestively.
Only if they're Rockshoxs
surely its as 'nutritious' as special k is 'slimming'. Both have small text to say 'only as part of a balanced diet'.
slow releasing energy is just carbs/fat, innit?
I didn't read it all but thanks for the PSA. Just had a big dollop of Nutella on toast 🙂
do rude, possibly illegal things to me with nutella
Am now pleased to have read this thread. 😀
Cougar 😳
creme eggs (I'm saying no more, I'll be banned)
I'll be in my bunk.
My 10yr old daughter has an half inch thick layer of it on her toast every morning, and it's done nothing to improve her general performance, which rarely exceeds woeful.
i think i had the same thought reading the creme egg thread emsz! 😆
bought a massive jar of nutella for my dad and his new wife as one of their wedding presents 😈
nutella - devil's excrement FACT 😀
One of may favourite after ride snacks, Nutella on a croissant!
My 10yr old daughter has an half inch thick layer of it on her toast every morning, and it's done nothing to improve her general performance, which rarely exceeds woeful.
Have to agree my two eldest have this most mornings no improvement at all .....
nutella is the food of champions. fact.

It would be irrelevant if Nutella were a foreign company. BCAP "applies" to all advertisers on OFCOM-licensed broadcasters. (Applies in quotation marks because there seem to be few consequences for breach in practice).
In any case, the advertiser isn't a foreign company: it's Ferrero UK Ltd of sunny Watford.

+1, I used to love the stuff as a kid, we alway brought it back from our family holiday in france. Food of gods, but lasts around 10 seconds between 3 boys.
If your daft enough to be taken in by the Nutella advertisers message (it's just chocolate in a jar, after all), then your probably already eating turkey twizzlers for dinner too, so it's not like it matters much is it?
Cereal schmereal, Nutella is the breakfast stuff of Champions.
Generations of German sporting success were built on a solid foundation of Nutella on small bread rolls for breakfast.
Works for me in a bagel with peanut butter, but only for the purposes of long road rides in the winter. Otherwise you kind of feel like Vegas-era Elvis.
I spent about 10 years of my life eating nutella on toast for breakfast and nutella sarnies for lunch during work days. Never did me any harm 🙂
never ever tried it.

Then why does the advertiser feel the need to make such statements to potentially mislead in the ad?
Should McDonalds be allowed to say certain elements of their food are healthy?
Should Kentucky be allowed to state that all their chickens are brought up humanely in a good environment? (past tense now as animal activitists pointed out the false nature of the claim)
The reason why advertisers need to have their claims tempered is to stop further erroneous claims.
I grew up eating lots of Marathon bars and Buttons etc on the sly.
31grams of fat per 100grams of Nutella and its first ingredients listed are sugar then oil.
Interesting that Nutella bases its GDA% on just a 15gm portion/serviing. That wouldn't even cover a corner of a piece of toast. Nutella you sly old dogs 😉
Anyway, if you want to go into the relms of 'naughty treats' I'd suggest Carnation Milk 😀
Anyway - Nutella is a sugar hit - just like the use of jelly babies on a ride. Its the bread that Nutellas spread on that provides some sort of energy release.
So Nutella's connotation is misleading.
Almond butter is the law - FACT
Wait, stop. There's a creme egg thread?
