There seems to be a few people asking for ISIS to be nuked. How bad an idea would that be? I would probably do it, but that's why it would not be a great idea for me to be in that position.
It would have been like nuking France or Belgium during the war because there were a few Germans in those countries - ineffective against a widely distributed foe and hugely costly in innocent lives.
It seems like a bad idea, bearing in mind the ISIS people that were involved in the Paris shootings were living in France, Belgium, Germany etc. The Belgians and Germans might get a bit upset if you nuke their cities…

It'd be a good justification for the Trident replacement. Whats the point of having them if you're not going to use them?
It is encouraging that you're aware you're not best placed to have such power.
Next step is knowing why not.
Not to mention the threat of Mutually Assured Destruction. You go throwing nukes round the Middle East, there are nuclear armed countries nearby that could take offence to that
Don't encourage him Malvern Rider
OP, link to those suggesting it ? It's not been something I have seen or heard of as a proposed solution.
Maybe have table talks first.
If they want to kill us, why are we not defending ourselves?
I'm not the person best for discussion as Europe, refugees, Islam fan not, IS and UN is just a mess so I'm packing and leaving the mess to be whatever the 'leaders' think.
Knock knock can I come back as the planet is a bit messed up and everywhere else is more of mess so we better sort it now.
...been listening to Jeremy Vine OP?
Just googe it.
With great power comes great responsibility. If all the big players started tossing nukes about every time there was a conflict, I doubt there would be much habitable land left for us sheep and arm chain generals to graze on.
Your right that's why the majority of the public can't be trusted in charge of broom cupboard nevermind anything else.

I'd rather slide down a razerblade using my balls as brakes.
There was a concern that Putin might resort to small nukes following the downing of the passenger plane from Egypt. I would say that was more credible than the French doing so. But it would be like blowing your neighbours house up to get rid of rats while they are still inside.
There's always a few people asking for my local half way house for street sleepers to be nuked. It doesn't mean I'd start an STW thread about it (or suggest I'd be happy to press the button if told it was a 'good thing').
Can we agree to have all the nonsense and nutters confined to just one thread per day please.
Maybe we could solve the problem of pick pockets with nuclear weapons too?

We’re only allowed one thread a day now on STW???? 😉
pick pockets have nukes? 😯
Apart from the nuclear fallout and leaving a country (ok a continent) a wasteland for a shed load of years, i think it is a really bad idea
I would probably do it
Ring Ring.....Ring Ring.

I remember after 9/11 I was on a different forum and some Americans were seriously suggesting that they should nuke Afghanistan and turn the entire desert to glass.
I pointed out that as terrible as 9/11 was, killing 30 million people and plunging the surrounding countries into a nuclear winter was a slightly disproportionate response.
I got banned.

From where?
Trumps's arse?

Did you have to use crayons when you were a teenager as well?
There's a great West Wing episode called (I think) Proportional Response.
Lobbing a nuke at a bunch of nut jobs, thereby turning the Middle East to wasteland for the next 30-40 years is not a proportional response.
Are you talking nuking the region in general, on the off chance we might squish a few IS amongst the millions less directly involved? Because I wouldn't offer that a great deal of support. If you're talking more of a Kim Jong-un-esque "tie the filthy pigs to a post in the middle of a big (very big) firing range and drop ordinance on them from a great height", that I'd pay to see.
This calls for a major, and I mean major, leaflet campaign.
You know that trident isn't a first strike weapon right?
Is it like mousetrap? Set off a nuclear bomb and watch the fun commence?
This calls for a major, and I mean major, leaflet campaign.
Shall I convene The Committee for the Liberation and Integration of Terrifying Organisms and their Rehabilitation Into Society?
Jesus wept...
i had the good/bad fortune to listen to the Jeremy vine show at Lunch.
The idea (being roundly slammed as stupid) was to bomb Raqqa - seeing as it's where ISIS seem to have their club hut.

Do it. What's the worst that could happen? 😀
We should nuke Saudi Arabia as that's where the money comes from...

What did you expect? Bloody lefties!

Is that who buys the oil from ISIS controlled areas?
Oh aye they'll buy oil from anyone, desperate for the stuff they are
No, Saudi just gives them money as they follow the right type of Islam.
Assad buys the oil from ISIS controlled areas of Syria. (yes, I know)
Nuke from orbit - the only way to be sure, 😉
2 pages and no one has suggested it, shame on you STW 😉 😉
Nope OP I think it's a good idea. 🙄
I'm not too sure you'll be able to have access to the UK's WMD. So if you start Googling "how to get hold of enriched plutonium" I'm pretty sure you'll either find an answer or someone will be around to explain the technicalities of the request.
Off you go...
Tell us how you get on..
Indiscriminate bombing of Iraq, ****stan and Afghanistan is what created these nut jobs, so yeah, why not a nuke. That would work out well!

Didn't bencooper buy some on eBay from someone's grandad yesterday? 😉
Alternatively, just visit a public forum where someone has typed the words:
how to get hold of enriched plutonium
and it's been repeated 2 or 3 times by other posters.
In the first Iraq war, my dad said what they should do is nuke Iraq's 5th largest city, then if they didn't pull out of Kuwait, the 4th, and so on. I was 17, and that was the point I realised that my dad is an idiot, and since then I've refused to get into any political discussions with him.
Well if we'd uked it then we wouldn't have to be nuking it now, would we?
Well if we'd uked it then

TBH.

Something in here stinks.

Do you have a good acronym? May I suggest
Campaign for Liberating ISIS, Terrifying Obama and Regression of Iraq and Syria.
Catchy

😀
I think lunge and jontaylor have got their finger on something there
If you happen to find yourself on any of the rabid right wing FB pages you'll see an absolute shit ton of people proposing nuking ISIS. The hate is really quite depressing. I'm off work and weirdly, I just can't stop reading the comments, I don't know why, I know it's likely killing my brain cells/will to live but like some strange addiction I can't stop...help...
If one good thing comes of this, it's made it far easier for me to work out who to remove from my Fb friend and Xmas card list.
There are a raft of extreme measures you could take with respect to Raqqa before nukes;
Bomb ...
all access roads (so no exits)
electricity generation plats
water supplies
The issue is there are lots of people trapped in Raqqa who have nothing to do with IS and who are desperate to get out
The most likely solution is to have Russian and Iranian ground troops retake the city as part of their operation to restore control under Assad. The former Head of the UK military has suggested that the best option

It sounds like theotherjonv has taken them off his Xmas card list - isn't that enough?
There seems to be a few people asking for ISIS to be nuked
Like , Who?
heh! An old schoolfriend on facebook called for us to 'quit being so PC and to nuke the **** ers'
I assumed he was talking about the french, which seemed like kicking someone when they were down to me, and would almost certainly drive the price of wine up which seems like a bad idea
Not to mention the threat of Mutually Assured Destruction. You go throwing nukes round the Middle East, there are nuclear armed countries nearby that could take offence to that
Countries plural? Well I suppose there are nukes in the closest outside country, though given it doesn't have independent control of them, at best it might get a say rather than taking offence afterwards - it certainly won't be targetting us. Otherwise I can only think of one country in the region with nukes, and I kind of suspect they would welcome bombing Daesh (they certainly won't be targetting us either).
Who were you thinking of?
What's the point in dropping leaflets if nobody can find them?
Oh, very good!
We shouldn't get involved with ISIS; never tangle with anything that's got more teeth than the entire Osmond family.
I found the following exchange from a bit earlier:
So, what, the real use of Trident is to threaten to incinerate millions of civilians in a country who can't even retaliate?
What on Earth does that make us?
Safe
Ignorance isn't safety.

I want to know how the OP's googling for plutonium is going..
Update please, ta..
bikebouy - I used to work at a nuclear power station where they produced plutonium and tritium.
"You should see what I can see,

Not sure if peeping Toms would have a long life expectancy in Raqqa
