With all the excitement of last night's threads behind us (and as a relative newbie to the forum), I'd like to know: What are the Greatest Hits threads of STW over the years?

Picolax was before my time so it has to be either Sudacrem Cat or Ling

Picolax

How to get Sudocreme off a cat?

Magnetodog.

I also enjoyed Is there any such thing as a road legal hovercraft? but it doesn't attract the attention it deserves.

Do headsets come with a crown race?

FS: Silent Clutch hub.

Any coffee thread where the bloke who sells coffee machines and electric guitars pops up to recommend spending more on your espresso machine than your bike, and more again on the grinder.

Any attempt at astroturfing by fruit/tango/superstar

The guy (Simon?) who got off with his wife's best friend on the sofabed and then came here for advice.

Any time WCA has a world-class accident or gets accosted by Juan* "excuse me, are you ze World-Class Accident"?

*
whatever happened to him?

I find the lack of links disturbing...

If you think I'm going to bang in a search for Penguin [ahem] Reproductive Fluids on my work computer you've got another thing coming!

Pun entirely intentional.

Pilolax was funny at the time, I think it's impact pales a bit in the re-reading...

You mean a website exists with a search function that actually works? Surely not!

Google for site:http:\\www.singletrackworld.com and then the search criteria, it works a lot better than the search bar on the site.

Anyone else remember the guy with an "outdoor" girlfriend, as opposed to his "indoor" girlfriend?
Talking maybe 6 or 7 years ago...

Google finds nothing so may have been pre hack, definitely a while ago. The username I thought it was exists but hasn't got any threads linked to it so I guess it was pre one of the updates.

Anyone else remember the guy with an “outdoor” girlfriend, as opposed to his “indoor” girlfriend?

The other way around wasn't it? He was the outdoor boyfriend, but she lived with another guy?

The mammal top trumps (starts towards the bottom of the first page) on this one has been sadly forgotten.

https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/how-many-of-you-are-bored-stiff-at-work-and-clock-watching-waiting-for-it-to-end/

and seems like many of the pic links no longer work, but still plenty there to raise a smile.

I Google Things So You Don't Have To. In no particular order:

The Picolax Thread.

Sodocrem Cat.

Argh, my eye!

As it popped up in another thread yesterday, Mr Nutt's Allotment.

Magnetodog.

Outdoor boyfriend.

Improving my wife signal.

Any more for any more?

Picolax was of a time, still well crafted writing but now locks the shock and awe factor.

Magnetodog, especially the denouement (you did put a magnet behind the picture for old time's sake didn't you)

For those that were here at the time, Sudocrem cat, especially his (young at the time) daughter and her emergency Union Jack, I'm sure i read that she's now at University or started a fmaily or retired or something, hust to make us realise how old we all are.

My neighbour's hedge or fence or whatever it was - I don't remember but it was very clever at the time.
{edit - Mr Nutt's allotment, just reread following the link above. Superb, I'm 4 pages in, when you know the ending the gentle drip feeding in of the clues is just brilliant, and all those that haven't got it yet getting increasingly angry at his inability to MAN UP!! No spoilers please, but you should be scriptwriting for Inside Number 9}

There was also the thread by the guy who was so fed up with his courier failing to deliver that he arranged for them to collect a parcel from his own address and deliver it to himself to prove they knew where it was.

That was great, if not a classic.

Improving the wife signal was superb.

Sudocreme cat still makes me cry with laughter, Picolax has worn off. As it were.

The one about the elite Taekwondo club based in Edinburgh. Could of kicked the shit out of pro MMA fighters but didn't bother as they all earned £500k a year anyway.

The "Badger" thread was mixture of eye-wateringly funny and feeling so sorry for Badger who just dug deeper and deeper. As Badgers do I suppose 🙂

There was also a great thread years ago by a user called "42" who posted pictures of himself in various poses showing you "how 'ard" he was....

And who can forget the pics of the young lad modelling "full Enduro kit" in his bedroom in his mum and dads house?

So many classics . . .

That was classic STW, someone who couldn't back down and his claims just became more and more delusional.

Surfmat and his driving was along the same lines.....

References to the trails round the back of the Nationwide - which apparently actually exist

Crown races

Picolax

Genuinely helpful technical threads

Genuinely helpful life advice and support threads

Endless bickering on political threads - which I enjoy.

That’s what STW means to me.

Aye the 'Did Aldo Take a Dive" aka the taekwondo Gods from Edinburgh that earn 300k per year and would ko all of the UFC dudes with consomethinge ease is an absolute classic.

The Mint Sauce keying thread was awesome too!

That driving thread where Surfmatt and someone else....potentially the aforementioned Taekwondo God actually....traded claims about being invited to become CEO of the institute of advanced drivers and other such nonsense was fairly funny too.

The stand out funny threads are mostly covered post (and some pre) the 2009 hack.

The most amazing acts of support and kindness of this place often don't make light reading though. It's better for them but not ones for a casual evenings browsing.

That Gnusmobile thread should be front and centre here. It's STW's equivalent of what happens when someone falls down in the middle of a mosh pit.

Was it here or Bikeradar where everyone went mad and started posting animated german shepherds off some terrible website everywhere for a day, then never spoke of it again?

The Ling thread was already good but the Ling's ride followup made it perfect

not really a fan of the picolax thread itself but I love that it gained a life of its own... Seen it on Overclockers and Pistonheads, my brother sent me a link of it on a home brewers' site, my other brother saw it on bloody hm****ickback... Some mate of my dad's literally printed it out and gave him a copy because that's how my dad consumed the internet.

I was a bikeradar mod at the time... I banned him after he flounced, he complained to the mod team and Nick laughed at him, apparently he then complained to Future.

It was definitely on here, and I'm reasonably sure it was a current poster. I want to say someone like Edukator or CountZero or Northwind, with the caveat that I'm atrocious at remembering usernames. It was someone with that sort of cadence.
