You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
i find myself listening to Wittertainment out of habit these days, and pressing the +15 seconds button quite a lot!! i like what they have to say but its all the **** sycophantic listener correspondence, addled with in-jokes and catchphrases, which is unbearable.
Could have written this myself. Also agree it's a nice contrast when they have the less self-referential stand-ins.
All the alternate presenters are decent enough but the woman critic (whose name I can't recall) is excruciatingly awkward on air. And often seems to review films in reference to their social media reception rather than their actual content.
She’s called Clarisse! Dunno her 2nd name but her forename is easy to recall given it’s a film show *does Hannibal impression* but yeah she’s a bit heavy on all the old feminist shit

Simon Mayo seems a lot happier, and funnier, on air since the announcement.
That's it, Clarisse.
I'm down with the feminism but she just sounds uncomfortable as a broadcaster (partly her weird trans-Pacific drawl?) and I don't recall her offering a lot of insight.
Simon Mayo did the Radio 1 Roadshow in my hometown when I was a teen. This was his opener.
'Good Morning Hunstanton, this is for you' and played Every day is Like Sunday.
No song could of better suited my grumpy teenage self, growing up in a seaside town.
That’s it, Clarisse.

She's awful. Partly because she's always paired with Edith Bowman, so you have this dreadful mix of accents: Edith Bowman's not-quite Scottish (her pronunciation of "character" makes the OH's skin crawl), and Clarisse's Boston/ English/ drawl/ twang/ thing. And as you say, both of them just sound really awkward, and like neither of them has actually done the job they're doing before. Mind you, Sanjeev is pretty annoying with his "well, when I was acting with Oliver Reed..." shtick. How Robbie Collin avoids jumping over the desk and nutting him I don't know.
I thought she had a semi-Aussie accent, but you may be right.
I don't mind Sanjeev or Edith at all, though I prefer the other stand-in presenter (Ben?). I have thought they should try splitting the women up if they want to persist with Clarisse, it often gets a bit too inane and nicey-nice.
Can I be in the Ken Bruce fan club too? After he’s done, I like a bit of Nihal on r5.
Happy to have Sara Cox as mayo’s replacement. The confession thing hasn’t been funny for a long time.
But what do I know?! I love Vanessa! 🙂
Sara Cox taking over from January.
Let the flounce begin.
As long as it isnt vanessa. Its a shame they arent getting rid of Steve Wright rater than Simon Mayo
Brilliant, Love the Bolton lass. SM will be sadly missed though....
Oh cool.
Should be a good listen..
Bruce will be gone next.
Im no fan if mayo who is somewhat smug but he has been sacrificed to the bbcs ruthless diversity agenda.
The two foggies in the middle of the day are finally getting squeezed out by normal people..
🤣
OK first to admit I really don't like Sarah Cox. I just don't see her fitting in with the R2 drive time listeners. Maybe she's good on her Sunday night slot or for the odd stand in role.
I guess in the role that they do they will always divide opinion. Just a shame the BBC decided the best way to fix their diversity issues was to stick someone with no talent into a prime slot. I just hope for her that this doesn't go all Pete Tong.
Sarah Cox can be really good. I hope she does more than the stand in breakfast show thing she does of just reading out endless texts.
Mayo was OK, Steve Wright should be gone asap - DJ silly boy and the muppets. How is that prime time?
Ken's going to be there a while. Still has the biggest listener base (I'm not sure how!)
Is there not a way we can get rid of the (awful) Wright and (wet) Feltz....
Start a petition?
Nowt wrong with the Bolton lass, looking forward to it
I know I'm a suvern....but I can't listen to Sarah Cox, just because of the accent!

I hope so. He once read out a message from a listener who said 'you used to be the worst DJ on the radio...and now you're the best! I reckon that's about right. He's warm and witty and plays good music, with a bit of pop master thrown in.
Very disappointing news about Sara Cox but not unexpected. I have no idea what other people see in her and I can't help feeling she's got something on someone high up as to me her promotion is completely inexplicable. She's an instant off for me whenever she raises her voice on radio.
Still it could have been worse, it could have been Vanessa Felz or Liza Tarbuck.
I was hoping for Angela Scanlon as I think she's great both interesting and engaging and not zany/bonkers/banal like SC seems to be.
I won't be listening and I'm sure they won't miss me.
Brilliant, Love the Bolton lass. SM will be sadly missed though….
This. Mayo made that slot and I'm sure she will do the same, just a shame the twunt he follows wasn't the one put under the bus.
God forbid a presenter doesn't have a southern accent though.
I know I’m a suvern….but I can’t listen to Sarah Cox, just because of the accent!
Some of us are married to Boltonians, you know.
SC would’ve been great on the breakfast show, can only assume she didn’t want it.
The sooner Steve Wright is forcibly retired the better IMHO, and he can take his Serious Jockin’ with him.
I also have to say he is the only DJ from radio who I’ve won something from, 2 tickets to Baz’s R&J which due to Diana funeral didn’t get through in time and 3 CD’s from one of his pick 3 records things in about 97!!
I’ve only ever won two things from radio competitions, the first was from Simon Bates on Radio 1, a write-in based around the film Hackers. The prize was a week for two in Los Angeles! The second was a Mountain Goats CD from Phil Jupitus on 6Music. It’s fair to say that there’s a bit of a difference... The trip to LA was pretty amazing, though.
Indifferent to both Mayo and Cox, struggled with the Mayo/Whiley chemistry (or lack thereof), so fully prepared to give Cox a try, so to speak.
Genuinely stunned by the Ken love - I feel no warmth from the man, and he seems very awkward with listeners.

sorry....wasn’t meant as an an insult I just find it so grating. I was watching a prog on telly ( or the telly box as SC would say 🙁) and this very attractive woman was speaking with the same accent. I had to change channels.
Ken is never awkward when conversing with listeners, the award for that goes to Mayo, who just barks questions at people like he’s reading them.
Radcliffe is a top man.
The other one is a post modernist Northern rambling dickhead

This is true, but I caught five minutes of Jo Whiley trying to chat to listeners on the request drivetime show on Friday and I reckon she takes awkwardness and obviously feigned interest to a whole new level. Her correct slot is later on, talking about stuff she actually likes with people who like the same stuff.

I'm another person who likes Ken Bruce.
Vanessa Feltz might be bearable if she ever learned to add punctuation when she talks, and Steve Wright is just dire. I always wonder what he has on the BBC bosses to keep him in his slot.
The only presenter on Radio 2 that has me lunging desperately for the power button is Elaine Paige. I'd lobotomise myself with a used toothbrush if I couldn't turn the radio off.
I know I’m a suvern….but I can’t listen to Sarah Cox, just because of the accent!
I'm a Lancastrian & I turn the volume down every time she speaks.
The presenter I like listening to most is Ken Bruce, not sure why others don't like him.I find Mayo smug.
I agree with the Elaine Page comment, but I think her show is aimed at theatre going types, definitely not me.
so fully prepared to give Cox a try, so to speak
I believe a pool table may be useful here....
An interesting read, making pretty much every point we covered in this thread:
