Oh, wait a minute, 60p to send something the entire length of a country?
Bargain!
God Bless our Royal Mail (despite their monopoly 😉 )
Personally, I think it just makes the end of daily post deliveries a step closer.
Bar periodicals and birthday cards I don't get much through standard post anymore I'd be happy with a weekly delivery.
In Sweden the postie collects the post as well as delivers, This seems far too logical - if we did this then the cost is acceptable IMO
I always said they should put the price of stamps up. Struggling badly for revenue and massively underselling stamps was silly imo.
Really 60p is naff all when people are queueing up to pay £3.50 for a coffee in Starbucks and pay similar for a pint or five. Perhaps old people might struggle a bit, but then perhaps they should make third class stamps available - it already exists after all.
I thought the idea was that old people, or vunerable people, will be protected by second class fixing at 55p
There will be some control of what Royal Mail can charge competitors to access its network
I would like a bit more details on this, I think its long been the case that RM basically subsidises the deliveries of companies giving it "pre-sorted" mail, which means taxpayers have subsidised junkmail and big business mail contracts.
In the real world. what's the difference between 1st and 2nd class anyway. Sorting machines running off a 12v battery rather than mains? Older/slower/short-sighted staff?
Most things really don't need to be there next day. Birthday cards for example - you've had 12 months to prepare and you know exactly when peoples birthdays are. If you're late with a card you're an idiot. Don't blame it on the postie.
Does anyone know what the Royal Mail charge, per unit, to deliver all the unsolicited crap I get from companies?
I'd be interested to see how that compares to the cost of a stamp
Agreed, it's still a reasonable price, but that's a massive hike.
I think I'd have liked to have seen a bigger differential between first and second class. I don't think I've ever sent a second class letter; I didn't realise it still existed (and can't immediately see how it'd work from a practical perspective). But yeah. Ramming up the price of first class and keeping second class dirt cheap might make things a bit easier for the delivery services and make 2nd a more useful alternative. Maybe.
I buy a stamp once every 3 years, i think I'll get by! 😀
Actually when you think about it, my internet cost £21 a month x 12 / 365 = £0.69 per day, so really it's comparable with other forms of communication(I assuming i'd send one letter or email a day.).
what's the difference between 1st and 2nd class anyway.
not really that complicated. lot's of first class mail? 2nd class goes on the next truck available. that might be tomorrow, or the next day. it's a way of smoothing out capacity, that's all.
Has anyone checked whether kaesae is ok?
Fingers crossed his meds get through with the new inproved service 😉

Think they do this in some remote parts of scotland etc.. do they collec the post in Sweden in cities or just rural parts?
60p is the cost of a mars bar - seems fine
Oh, wait a minute, 60p to send something the entire length of a country?Bargain!
yeah, especially when it's addressed to someone in the next street
if this means its less profitable to send out junk mail then im happy!
