Any ideas how to sync these properly. I've got both devices now using iCloud for notes so new notes should appear on both but I've got 97 old ones on my phone and 13 on my iPad that won't sync???
use Evernote, it's a much nicer interface and automatically syncs notes across multiple devices.

Yes, evernote. But, that doesn't solve the problem - to get historic notes to sync, have you tried duplicating them - thus making a 'new' instance and triggering the sync.
I'm not sure there is a manual way of syncing them, so either duplicate to select all copy paste into a new note seems like the only way.
Evernote tends to be a bit clunky offline in my experience, but is fine when you have a net connection, and it's great to sync across ipad, iPhone, computer whatever.
Can't speak for the notes app, but I use simplenote on my phone, and notational velocity on my mac for cloud based note taking.
They sync together perfectly
Notes just make sure the accounts are setup to sync with each other.
Oh sorry as in.
The notes your making go to the right account as there is often more than one, make sure it's the one set for icloud and the same on all devices.
Will give Evernote a go for future and attempt the copy paste method for the old stuff
Evernote is good too - but more complex as it involves photos etc
Simplenote is text based only - I prefer it for the simplicity over Evernote
For simple note taking Wunderlist takes some beating.
Right, new notes are working fine on iCloud but so far can only copy and paste one note at a time to get it transferred to the iCloud account. Please tell me there's some way to select and copy multiples?
