A little advice please fellow STWers.

I want to pass a twin aerial coaxial cable through my living room wall. I'd like to pass it through the same faceplate as the satellite feeds.

However I have sockets a little further to the right and I'm very keen not to drill through any cables.

The wall is dry lined as we have solid walls (Victorian house).

I hope to just drill a hole directly through the back box. The sat feed comes up into the bottom of the box. I've tried pulling the sat feed back through but it won't budge.

How reliable are cable finders?

Ta in advance

Just drill straight out the back of the backbox, its screwed to the brickwork so i cant see why anything would be behind it. Youd be very unlucky to hit something in the cavity.

The usual danger zones are a vertical strips above light switches, and vertically below sockets, and horizontal between sockets. Check both sides of the wall.

Any sort of DIY evidence and be prepared for anything, including diagonal cooker feeds etc!

Vertical water pipes, particularly near a boiler, kitchen or bathroom are possible.

Unscrew the box and take it out of the cavity?

The back box is screwed directly onto the face of the wall, we have 50mm thermal boards dot and dabbed on.

Just drill straight out the back of the backbox, its screwed to the brickwork so i cant see why anything would be behind it. Youd be very unlucky to hit something in the cavity.

Good point. My electrician fitted it so I imagine there's nothing behind it to worry about. No cavity, so I believe. Just double brick.

Make the hole 50% bigger than needed so you can butt the cable up and tape it to the drill bit.  It's always harder to get it through than it looks!

Measure the wall and mark the bit so you can turn off the hammer before br we breaking through and blowing off the face of a brick or a load of render!

Form a drip loop when cleating the cable up to the hole.

Diagonal cables , when did you sneak into my house. The diy enthusiasts who was here before me needs a big hard slap.

Fortuanly we had an electrician in to check a few things before doing anything.

My favourite was the isolator for the shed , it’s turns off the feed for the light but the sockets are wired into the live side of the box

Take the back box out and pop out the hole. No need to drill the box.

Remember your grommet for the hole!. 😉

When you drill through use a small dia on impact, then drill back from outside using the size you need without impact.... be gentle there’s nothing worse than making a mess of the brickwork face... remember to form a drip loop on the coax

Thanks for the tips, hopefully I won't be posting up a follow on thread!

I've tried to remove the back box but it seems pretty wedged in. I cannot risk the wallpaper!
