Just ordered 1500L of oil – at least it’s cheaper now than last year.

That reminds me, I need to get on and do the same.

Shorts swapped for longs today, but probably come the weekend it'll be shorts again :-0

No heating for as long as poss...

Been bloody freezing here, heating's off but the little heater's often on in the living room blasting 400w of goodness directly at me from 2 feet. Room stays cold, feets get warm.

Still off here in the midlands, and still in shorts as well, albeit with a hoody and a gilet for the morning walk. There's an argument that it was a touch cold for the flip-flops I wore to walk the dog, but not by much.

On my scale we're definitely into "put a jumper on", and "put some socks on" will come next. That still leaves "put some trousers on", "put a thicker jumper on" and "lets cuddle under the blanket on the sofa" before we resort to the heating.

Anyone used infra red heating panels.. Are they cost efficient.. I think one could work for me at my desk without putting the heating on until later in the year...

I have 2 far infrared panels. 700w each. I reckon a 700w fan/convention heater would be better under a desk.

The panels do create heat and are silent in operation. I bought the WiFi connected option so I can control them remotely. Cost £90 each so they'll never pay themselves off.

A cheap £10/15 convection heater with a 750w setting with a tapo smart plug would be my choice if I was buying at this moment in time.

Plus the Agile tariff from octopus.

I haven't used a modern infrared panel but I've always used oldschool ir heaters for the garage- they're pretty bad at heating a space, but they're brilliant at heating a thing (in this case, me) SO you can be warm in a cold room. Brilliant in a room that's hard to heat- too big, too draughty, lacking insulation- but can also just be really efficient, and good for a quick boost.

Very tempted to get a modern one to stick under my desk, not for fulltime but for those moments where I'm just a wee bit chilly and it'll take ages to fix it with the real heating

Not warranted putting heating on here in East of Scotland, but my wife is a fan of the electric blanket and puts it on most nights throughout the year. Like in high summer (not necessarily this year) puts it on, gets into bed, turns it off, falls asleep then 5min later has kicked all of the covers off ?.

Still 21 degrees in the house here in North Somerset sans heating.

A bit chilly this evening so I closed the down stairs trickle vents for overnight. Bedroom windows will remain at least partially open year round.

There's a chance the stat will strike up the heating for a bit at 06:00 tomorrow morning, but it'll need to bottom out 18 indoors to do that.

We're a 'put a jumper on' kinda family.

Well the heating just kicked in. I put new batteries in the thermostat, just to make sure it was working, better to know now rather than a proper cold day. I was surprised when it clicked on. Was set at 19c.
It shut off after about a half hour, the house is pretty well insulated.

No heating still but we have just put the duvet back on the bed. I'm not laying under it at the moment though, we'll see if I wake up under it tomorrow morning....

I heard mine kick in at somewhere around 8 this morning. It’s supposed to be a bit colder tonight around 8°, so I guess it’s going to fire up tomorrow morning as well. It only came on for about half an hour, so just enough to warm the air a bit.

@dufresneorama I'm a huge fan of the electric blanket, I intentionally get cold before I go to bed so when I climb in it's like jumping in the toaster. Just lovely.

I put mine on a timer so my bed is fully heat soaked and I fall asleep really quickly.
Then there's no chance of leaving it on and waking up at midnight and feeling like you've in a slow cooker

Not well. Drained the system yesterday, replaced a couple of faulty TRVs, refilled with inhibitor.

Forgot to reset from default to miser-mode and blew October's DD payment (maybe 🙂 )

12°c in the kitchen this morning.

No negative Agile power either! So I'll have to make do with a brew, hat and gilet!

Bedroom is around 17°c . Electric blanket connected to a smart plug will return later in the year.

Ours has been on the evening for a few evenings now - outside overnight temp low was 5°c last night and 6°c (and windy) the night before. Currently 9°c outside apparently and between 13.5°c and 15.0°c across all rooms, looking at my Honeywell app - smart TRVs in all rooms. Sedentary WFHer most of the time and persevering without heating this morning as about to head out onsite.

Not willing to freeze my bollocks off to save a few quid.

13°C inside the van this morning. 5°C outside.

Have been in the Friulian Alps the last three months. Most days over 32°C and nice cool nights at ~17°C rather than 25+°C down on the plain.

Now parked up near Rosengarten in the Dolomites at 1800m and it's pissing it down with the occasionally sleety shower..... And we've got to go north to Germany where it's also pissing it down and the highest temp next week is 14°C....

Heating has cut in the last couple of mornings at 17°. Have to say it just takes the chill off the bathroom and I like a "not feeling cold" towel when I get out the shower. We turn it off when we're all up and dressed.

We're lucky, we can afford to make that choice.  Must be miserable for those that can't.

16-18C in the house, and around 12C outside in Bristol. Certainly felt the change in evenings and mornings, but no chance heating will go on - from tomorrow temps are starting their rise to 22C next week.

my garden data logger suggests we got down to 4 degrees last night + wind.

The kids bedroom declined to the point the heating kicked in at the set point.

i cant get my chimney any better insulated short of filling it top to bottom - which I'm reluctant to do - its Capped at the top with a breather - its vented at the bottom - with a chimney sheep just inside the throat.

The rest of the house stayed at the original set point - with the same insulation levels but lacking a chimney.

Got rid of the oil fueled central heating and replaced with ASHP a few months ago so just getting the hang of things. Slight complication is the previous owners installed electric UFH in the kitchen so currently playing around with the thermostats to limit this turning on first thing. Single figures outside overnight, inside is high teens early morning, so not cold yet but trying to optimise the system before it does.

Just put the heating on, couldnt take it any longer as legs freezing(very poor circulation)

Yes having the heating on is pricey these days, but you set yourself up for an increase of illness if you spend too long in the cold.

Kids complained bitterly this morning so as WFH fired it up for the annual radiator bleed to be presented with a dead zone valve. Typical

Been helping the eldest child change the clutch on his car today. Now I've come in I've realised how cold I got. Thermostat in the house says 18.5 Celsius, which considering we're now all in is a bit on the low side.

Still not putting the heating on as I'm way too tight. Still wearing shorts mind :->

Ground source here, so it's basically on all the time.Lovely warm floors in the morning 🙂  Still in Spring/Summer mode tho so the "winter" shirt has been extracted from the wardrobe.  In the shed where I work in the day, had to run the electric oil rad in the mornings a couple of times, but even as 2KW max, it get the room up to temp pretty quick (shed is well insulated).

First time for dog walking, needed the XTR beanie this morning. 6 degrees and very limited natural thatch required hat deployment 🙂

We've not fired up the wood burner yet, but that's mostly because the sweep is coming next week and we made pretty extensive use of it last year. So I'd rather de-soot the chimney before first lighting.

Here's a thing, My thermostat is currently set to 18 degrees, and is reading 18 degrees room temp, so my boiler is currently 'dormant' as expected...

At my desk the other side of the rooom I have a temp/hydro meter, which is reading 19.6 degrees which is kind of expected as it's near my computer, screen, and me, so it's probably as expected.

However I still feel a bit chilly...in summer when my room is 19 it almost feels too warm? what is going on here? is it my relative humididty which is a little on the high side at 61%, currently, but that's not insanley too humid, just a little on the high side?

Your body gets used to warmer/colder temperatures. I'm in central Spain, so the thermometer's skewed to the right, but last week I've started to feel chilly when it drops below 25C, whereas in winter that would be roasting.

Electric heating on later this evening for an hour whilst the price is less than 2p/kWh. I could run it for a few more hours at a sub 3p/kWh but I'll save my pennies for later on in the year.

Wood burner has also been lit this evening.

Our heating has been on for a few days and I thought there was an issue - very little heat seemed to be doing the rounds.
Conformed today when what sounded like the circulation pump jamming...cue dead boiler.

First year with a full 20kw of panels on the roof, Just coming out of winter here and we’ve only got through about 1 tonne of firewood. The reverse cycle air con has been set to 24 degrees and has kept the chill off the house nicely. Looks like payback on the additional solar and battery will be quicker than anticipated.

We used to keep our daily temp at this, both my wife and I were working from home at the time. She used a small electrical blanket if she felt cold sitting still for so long. I was flamed on here and somebody said they would be divorced if they let theres lower than 23....

We have an ASHP now and this will be our first winter so will be interesting to see how we get on. I have the thermostat set to 18 now (which i think is more accurate than our previous 50+ year old gas boiler) So far it feels fine.

for us (detached house in norn iron) 900 litres probably lasts about 3 months over winter, it does our heating and hot water, we WFH a lot, so are around in the daytime in the house, I try to just stick on another fleece or wear a hat rather than heating the house more than we have to!

Probably, but not in this household!

For every 37.5°c I put in, the E-blanket adds 30/60/90W of additional power depending on which setting I select.

Replaced the remainder of my rads now so there's around double the emitter area now. I put the thermostat up to 20 to give it a test and the house was absolutely flipping roasting. I've no idea how people survive setting it to 24. Maybe they've adapted and that's why they complain about being cold everywhere else.

If prices go negative this weekend on agile because of the incoming storm I'll have the electric convection heating switched on. Gas central heating won't be going on until sub zero outdoor temperatures occur, that said I could do with spinning the boiler pump.

I've programmed my smart plugs to turn on when the prices are negative. Not cold enough to warrant the electric heating being on even if the cost is averaging 2p/kwh for 12 hours.

Meh!

Mine are all on, plus the immersion.

Pushing the heat up now on cheap electric saves me burning oil later.

Big washing and drying day today!

It has been 16° for the last few days in Pembroke and the nights haven’t been cold. No need for any hearing yet (but the new dehumidifier has been on a couple of times to give it a whirl).

Off to Rothbury today to see my oldiewonks so I’m expecting to be in a house with lots of heating on for the week.

Thermostat is still set at 17.5,  it kicked in once a few weeks ago when we left the doors open while working outside but otherwise it's still not been on.  This morning it's saying the house is still 18C despite it being 4-5C outside overnight at the moment.

The cavity wall insulation we had blown in in 2019 is probably the best financially timed decision we've ever made ?
