The kids are now old enough for us all to eat together, provided it's about 6.00 to 6.30. This means that I'm eating much earlier than before, eating less, and I've therefore completely lost that urge (which I normally give in to) for a beer at about 7.00 or so. Result! It'll take a lot of early mealtimes to shift the 10 kg that needs to be lost, however.

Weight loss seems to be all about doing something sustainable rather than quick-fix diets. Sounds like you've found something that works for you. Reward yourself with a few beers at the weekend though 😉

I hope it works for weight loss - it's hard to see why not, as it should be a significant calorie reduction. It frees up the evening for riding, gym, reading or whatever as well - which is, of course, completely obvious when you think about it. As you say, it's changing habits that counts.

The weekend beer will undoubtedly taste finer - now dreaming of cold Hoegarden and a bowl of olives on Friday.

I've stopped drinking in the week - curious result is I drink less at weekends too. Beer suddenly seems much more filling now that i don't drink it so regularly.

Same as maccruisken. We stopped driniking in the week a couple of years ago - suprisingly easy too - and have far less urge at the weekends to open a bottle. Rather odd.

I wish I was home though to eat at 6.30!

Mate of mine used to abstain from alcohol for Jan & Feb every year.

No other dietary changes.

Consistently lost 2 stone.

And consistently put it all back on again throughout the rest of the year.

Wife and I stopped weekday drinking in January. An excellent result is that now I'm much less tired during the week, but the other consequence is that my alcohol tolerance has significantly declined; if I drink more than a couple of beers on a Saturday night I end up with a hangover. Unsurprisingly, my alcohol intake is now perhaps 8 units/week, maybe a bit less.

Net result is that the bottle recycling box is very sparsely populated with wine/beer bottles.

Ononeorange - so why aren't you home by 6.30? What time do we all get home?

Surely you're not trying to open up the whole public sector vs private sector stuff again, are you? 😉

Average pubic sector BMI vs. average private sector BMI - what does this tell us? (Don't forget to refer to company car availability, smugness due to 'gold plated pension' etc. in your analysis please).

Greeng, When working away from hime as I am just now I dont touch alcohol and I sleep much better abd have more energy to go out for a ride in the evening, and tend to be in a better mood so its definitely worthwhile.

I am considering setting up a Multi Gym in the garage.

Boxes of IPA bottles make a handy foil for those looking to boost the pecs or increase the general level of MENERGY in the room.
