Haha, I suspected Cougar would be along with that standard response, but I'm liking FunkyDunc's response more as that seems more accurate.

on issues with this site, my laptop won't play the video of anything embedded in this site. It runs the audio, but with a blank screen. If i go to u-tube and find the same video, its fine.

(FWIW I have similar issues with Chrome, I put it down to the security measures I've taken; it's fine in Edge)

There is. You can post on the forum, firstly that lets you see if other people are having the same issue or if it is just you. Secondly someone might have come up with a solution or work around. You have to hope for a quick reply before the thread gets closed though 😉

You also have to use a better subject title - otherwise your thread gets skipped by people who are already losing the will to put up with it.

I've given up using the site (and only this site) from my Linux box now, as it drives it mad, have to use mac. Any other site, no noticeable issues.

iPhone, Safari (latest I am guessing), when it happens - every f**in time I try and view the forum which can be between 6am and Midnight ish

Yep happens every time on the site. iPhone, safari. Also can’t view embedded YouTube videos unless logged in

It works for me when I log in but not when I'm logged out. Does it work when you log in (is it a P thing?)

"I'm logged out", should not imply I've logged out though.

Sorry to hear a few of you are having issues with YouTube embeds.

Can I ask that you report which device and browser you are using for further investigation. When things do not work from third party services like YouTube, it's more likely a browser/OS compatibility issue so knowing the device and browser (preferably with version of known) would be of much help.

So, it doesn't work on anything. You click play and nothing happens.

I get this, plays audio but picture stays black...dunno if its for all videos though, but seems to be.

Youtubes play fine for me:

W10, Firefox with ****, all cookie options in the pop-up unticked, logged in.

Oooh, I also get the blank YouTube issue, and it's impossible to open the video in another tab...

also, the past couple of weeks the forum chokes up my browser like nothing else... every page, every time - want to close a tab? click the 'x', wait anything from 5-60 seconds while it prevents you from clicking on anything else, with varying degrees of ball-of-death, and then it'll either close, or Chrome will crash.

oh, and every time i view STW my laptop tries to take off - not even MS Teams with 100 other people on the call makes it heat up so much and the fans whirr like a helicopter - I'm not even kidding 😣

I sympathise with the STW tech bods, but my computer works perfectly with every other website I ever visit, as does my phone, which also struggles with STW but no other website i ever go been on...

As such, I'm not convinced it's my browsers' fault...

MacBook Air, centrally controlled by work, so can't update it manually. Being from a large corporation, is kept up to date (if the almost daily updates Chrome insists on actually do what they say).

Phone is a Huawei P20 Pro, using Chrome - all updates I've been asked to do have been done...

STW is sadly the only nigh-on un-useable website I ever come across 😢

The you Tube thing is something to do with not being logged in. If i log in i can watch them in STW. If not just a blank screen

I sometimes have some of these issues when using Safari, my regular browser. If I switch to Brave they invariable disappear and everything works as it should.

When it freezes have a look at what’s in the progress bar bottom left of your screen hungrymonkey.

It's always a 'waiting for' thing - different URL, sometimes random websites, right now it's 'googleads.g.doubleclick.net'

It's marginally better when I'm logged in, but still hangs/makes my laptop take off...

Desktop works fine(ish) on Chrome, both iphone and ipad are desperately slow - comfortably 10 seconds+ between tapping the screen and any response at all. Both using whatever the current Safari is. Its very obviously (to me) hanging waiting for an ad to load but I haven't figured out which.

The youtube thing works OK if I'm logged in (but then I usually get logged out on all the other devices), otherwise I get just a blank space when I tap on the pic.
