Looking for somewhere to have a week with the family early July.
We've pretty much decided on the Moors area but struggling to pick out accommodation amongst the dozens available.
Does anyone have any recommendations that will suit a family of 4, kids 5 and 7, taking bikes with us, enjoy gentle walks and a park for the kids would be a bonus.
Happy to travel around a bit during the week for things to do.
Budget up to £1,000 but would be happier around £800.
I like the Pickering area.Close enough for trips to the coast and the North Yorks Moors Railway.Theme park nearby if that's your thing.Bird of prey centre at Helmsley and a visitors centre with walks at the top of Sutton Bank.
Just looked up my friend's place in Aislaby, but it's booked out for July. It also isn't close to a park particularly. It is however a good area to be in, not far out of Whitby, right on the North edge of the park. There's a reasonable pub in the village too which is always useful.
Helmsley would be the place for me, lovely little town with easy access to the Moors etc, there is a playing field with a children’s play area to the north of the town.
Mid way ish between Sutton bank and Dalby as well.
Sorry don’t know any specific accommodation.
When I have stayed at Pickering it has been at Westgate Carr Farm. It's a great campsite but they also have a cottage to let.Alpacas, horses ,sheep, chickens, etc.
We've just had a long weekend at Keldy Forest which ticks those boxes. We did a couple of activities and stayed on site for three days, venturing out on bikes. Trails are easy fireroads but with a far bit of climbing, my five year old got tired towards the end of the bigger loop but she is a determined little so and so.
Really enjoyed it and will be back again, with an OS to head to Dalby next time.
try North Farm Holiday Cottages in Fadmor. Would tick most of your boxes. My brother and his wife run them.
We are off to Goathland in a couple of weeks. Lovely place. Nice and tranquil. Bang on the railway, and within easy driving range of anything and everything. Biking heaven on those nice quiet roads and trails. Lots of accomodation, even a camp site.
Just stayed at "Yorkshire Wolds Glamping" for the weekend, who have converted railway carriages that would suit a family of four. Nice small relaxed site, pub with great food right next door. 20 minutes from coast or moors - we'd definitely go again.
