…very sad

Father was 86 years old, he looked after his son who has learning difficulties. Son apparently went a little berserk last night and stabbed him.
Lots of police cars/ambulances, house now has a police presence.

Feels surreal, this sounds awful but at least he was caught and hopefully the son will be treated as well as he can be treated by police etc.

All this on a quiet tree lined road in windy North London.

Oh my goodness, that's horrific. I hope you & your family are holding up okay, that can't be easy to deal with.

Sorry to hear that UnfitG hope you and your family and neighbours are ok and coping with the shock.

No justification but sounds like it could be another tragic case of failed care in the community.

Dunno why location makes any difference, can happen anywhere, bil was attacked by autistic son, looked like he'd been in a round or two with a pro boxer and littlun only turned 10 today, so it's quite likely to get a whole lot worse soon but a finding a residential place for him is still proving to be very difficult 😢

A shock when something like that happens.

Terrible shame if it's down to failures in the system that could have prevented it.

What is it about learning difficulties/autism etc that when these kids attack they can be so devastating? Is it just the lack of any inhibitions when they snap or something? Just intrigued.
Must be really scary being the parent of someone who can act like that. I always remember reading something about Katie Price’s son who could be violent at times and thinking that if he really snapped he would just kill her, he’s huge - thankfully he seems to be in a better place at the moment after I did a quick Google check.

Often it’s because they live at home with parents who are elderly and fragile

It doesn’t make any difference obviously.

Im sure in time the local road gossips will tell all.

Both our sons have autism/adhd, both have turned their rooms upside down at various times when they’ve lost the plot. As they’ve got older these outbursts have almost stopped. Perhaps for our sons it was an age thing, who knows. They're both extremely high functioning top sets at school etc, when they loose the plot the verbal language would make you blush.
If it isn’t the language then it’s iPhones being thrown at walls full pelt !
The last year alone must have had to replace about 5 or 6 phones. Next time it’s the brick phone.

As for our neighbour it’s just the mum there now who is also well into her 80s
All very tragic- who knows if interventions were in place.

Unfit geezer - having the same experience with my eldest. High functioning asd, top sets, intelligent but no emotional regulation. Phones and xbox controllers are an almost 2 monthly purchase. Refused to speak, look at or even acknowledge parental existence for the last week. Good to hear that your sons are finding some level of control. It's not easy, sometimes you feel you're making progress but it can be easily undone.

I transport SEN kids to & from their school in Knaresborough, most of whom are autistic on varying scales. I’ve seen some proper kickoffs on the bus. Our passenger assistants are assaulted quite regularly to some degree. One lad flips at red lights (try driving from One side of Harrogate to Knaresborough without seeing any) & has thumped anyone near him. Another kid who’s 5, is going to be a right handful when he’s older cos he’s bad enough now, in fact I’ll wager that in 10 years time he’ll be in Wetherby YOI.
Shocking stuff for the OP though.

😳😳 Sounds expensive!
