Seems that Kim Jong is getting paranoid are we looking at the start of the end?

Hope he doesn't decide to go out with a bang

Use of large calibre anti-aircraft guns at close range with a large audience says 'look/dont flinch/step out of line or even think it'.

They really are bullying/crushing their people aren't they? How much longer can it go on? Will N.Korea implode? Seems anyone who reaches any level of power is to be culled to stop seeds/or ideas. Paranoia or what.

The uncle was probably a nasty piece of work anyway, I can't imagine he got all his medals for charity work, the more he gets rid of the less he'll have around him when crunch time comes.

Getting rid of people who might still have some loyalty to his old man, replacing with people exclusively loyal to him.

He's killing off his top level guys at an alarming rate at the moment, about one a month and the gruesome methods involved don't exactly mark him out at being overly sane.

He executed a few people by mortar too, sick ****er.

Could be a good thing though, after all these high level North Koreans didn't get to where they were by being equally evil ****ers - and might cause a popular uprising.

"now shoot me down if I've got this wrong..."

We've all had meetings like that.

I thought that- thats a helluva lot of medals for fighting. I assume the combat would be from the 50's war.

But where could the NKoreans of gotten their inspiration for this from?

Is this recent? Didn't he already do something very similar last year?

To be honest, I think I'd rather be shot by an anti aircraft gun or mortar than a firing squad.

Pretty sure they wouldn't have offered the poor bastard a blindfold either.

I wouldn't hold your breath, people have been predicting North Korea's collapse for years but its truly an Orwellian nightmare where the state controls absolutely everything. People survive by gaining meager favour for informing on their neighbours, this meager favour is often the difference between starvation and survival for them and their family. Those that don't inform or actively support the state face starvation or imprisonment.

Have a read of "Nothing to Envy" its a few years old now but provides a pretty good view of the hellish reality of North Korea

Western propaganda .

You're right, it's really a socialist Utopia with free everything at the point of need, but the West don't want people to know that.

From our recent escapades do we prefer to have a strong despot in charge or virtual anarchy?

I'm sure they'll happily welcome you to their communist paradise with open arms. Would you like me to see what a one-way air ticket to Pyongyang would cost, or can you do it on your own.
Feel free to get in touch after your move, to let us know how things are going.

Completely true, the place is bonkers. But there's a lot of evidence to suggest that they're slowly losing control of the general population. Whereas they once had a level of respect alongside the fear, they only now have fear. Mobile phones are making their way across Chinese borders, families are speaking to defectors, defectors have radio stations setup in South Korea to communicate across the border. They can no longer get away with the idea that the Dear Leader is a Deity. These days he's just a scary, horrible bastard. An opinion that will grow with the increasing amount of of communication that floods into the country. Blowing people up with anti-aircraft guns might be an effective means of control for years to come, but it's becoming increasingly difficult for them.
