I'm planning a short visit to the Normandy beaches and surrounds in late June for 4 or 5 days. Maybe taking in some non military sight seeing to keep Mrs Bloke onside, Bayeux tapestry, Mont St Michel etc. Just the two of us, travelling by motorcycle.

There seems to be plenty of availability on Airbnb etc, but personal recommendations from STWers would carry more weight for me than online reviews. We are reasonably open to ideas. Self catering or B&B, ideally with secure parking, reasonably central for the D-Day beaches but inland a bit is fine. Somewhere a bit quirky or interesting would be good, in nice countryside. A small town or village would be ideal as long as there is a restaurant/cafe or two.

Moon on a stick? Whatya got?

The little town of Port-en-Bessin is a place we stayed a few years ago. Handy for all those places you want but not one of the bucket-and-spade holiday focussed towns along that coast. Really nice little fish port, proper French market, good bars and restaurants, I'd definitely stop there again.

Did exactly this trip 3 weeks ago

We stayed in La Vallée
Houlgate, Normandy which we booked through eurocamp - cheap as chips out of season which effectively it would be late June.

A few motorcyle tourer on site doing exactly what you plan on doing.

Nice place to stay and great location.

Thanks. I like solo motorcycle camping and we both like camping with the car, but when she is on pillion we prefer a roof over our heads. I will check out that location though 👍

As a town, we liked Courseulles - it was in the Canadian sector and has the Juno Beach museum. We were in a motorhome, though so not much help on accommodation. Bayeux and Mont St M were good.

Should have mentioned they are chalets/ or luxury French style statics.

Absolutely not camping !

Honfleur is a lovely, picturesque town, that might be worth looking at.

FWIW I'm off to Honfleur at the beginning of June.
We are stying here...

https://www.hotelinhonfleur.com/

As I havent been yet I can't necessarily recommend it seemed reasonably priced and located on Booking.com - and has a pool which is nice.

I have no idea about cost etc but fancy trying to stay in one of the many converted windmills along the coast not to far from Mont St Michell

So, after loads of prevaricating I booked an Airbnb in Tour-en-Bessin which is inland a bit from Port-en-Bessin.  Thanks for the advice everyone, hopefully we will get chance to check out some of the places mentioned above, even if we haven't stayed there this time.
