...in the 70's.
Oh dear.
😀
Not a lot seems to have changed...
Close call with the VW Beetle cabriolet and 4 people!
Crikey. I was surprised how easily they all rolled...
Quite a lot of rear engines RWD cars, once they start to go sideways....
It's the flying picnic baskets that make it for me.....
🙂
A few things that struck me:
- How many people didn't wear seat belts
- How little side protection some cars had
- how much crap people had in their cars! The amount of stuff that comes flying out of the windows in some crashes makes you think they must be knee deep in rubbish
How many people didn't wear seat belts
how many cars didn't have them fitted...
amazing how many people came out of their vehicles and walked away.
I guess the saving grace is that speeds were much lower than they are now so the crashed had that comedy 1950-70's movie aspect to them of slow moving car with such bad handling and stability it could go out of control at a little over walking pace.
You average Ring track day car probably has 4-5x the power of those things these days.
Most of those cars would be classics now! I'll have the Notchback and the BMW 2002: thanks...
+1 on the lack of seatbelts. Also gives you an impression both of how heavy but how structurally weak they were. Scary - especially the passenger in the Beetle smashing the side window with her noggin.
At least they saved on Armco fines. I spent my entire lap worrying about that and nothing else
Wow. Lots of people getting thrown out. 😯
The good old days, when if you went round a corner too fast your car fell over.
