New gloves (Endura Deluge) had their first real test today on the commute. About an hour of steady, fairly muscular rain. By the time I got to work, my fingers and the inside of the gloves were wet.
I can't understand why customer reviews on different sites and Bike Radar all rave about them, awarding multiple stars in their ratings. They're showerproof only, at best, IMO.
The search for properly waterproof cycling gloves continues...
Are they not just suffering the same problem as "waterproof" boots and socks? ie they both have one big unsealed hole for your hand to go in, and the water runs down into them that way?
Nope. I made sure the arms of the Gore top were over the top of the gloves.
Had an exchange of emails with the Endura CEO, who threatened legalities, then got rather juvenile and snippy.
He suggested that my minimal research (showing that about ten percent of user reviews were extremely negative) was complete nonsense and ignored my suggestion that they needed better quality control.
I sent the gloves back for testing and have just got a reply saying: "It appears that the membrane has been damaged in manufacture. To me there seems to be an issue in some of the fingers, this then made the rest of the glove wet as a result. "
Refund, I think.
Have you ever tried anything like Skytec Argon?
They have a good rep for winter climbing, I normally have a few pairs in my pack. They grip ice tools well, so I imagine handlebars won't be a problem (i've not tried them on the bike though).
Oh yeah, and they're about £6 a pair 🙂
I've had 3 pairs of Endura Strikes, through warranty replacement after the membrane fell apart. Brilliant customer service with quick replacements.
Nice gloves, but wouldn't wear them in actual rain for more than 10 minutes.
Specialized Sub Zero FTW when its properly cold. And those neoprene gloves in Fresh Goods Friday a few weeks back look like they could be good.
