The original lenses in my half jacket 2.0 are getting a bit past their best, scratched up both sides and with a odd thing around the edges that looks like tiny bubbles of a film peeling, although I don't think there is any film. Tbh I can live with it a while yet as I don't see any of it when they are being worn, but in readiness for next summer I might get some new lenses. A quick Google and it seems some new black iridium proper Oakley lenses are not a big price, £35 ish. The search also popped up with several 'such and such lenses, for Oakley' for a tenner ish, or 5 assets for £34. Now one reason for getting Oakley is the superb lenses so I think I know the answer here..... But are any of the non Oakley lenses any good? I quite like the idea of 2 or 3 different colours... Vibrant green or whatever for the odd day I feel brave, black iridium the rest of the time, or do I just stick to the ones I know are good?

I have Revant replacements in mine. Absolutely fine, can't tell the difference really.

Revant lenses here too in my various Oakleys, only problem was a slightly thinner lens in my poseur wire frame Oakleys that too a bit more effort to secure in the frame, but once in it's been great.

I've had Revants and a few others and all of them have been trashed by sal****er. The mirror finish just flakes off after exposure to it. I'm going to go for original Oakley lenses to replace the last set that died. I have had no problem with Oakley or Smith's mirror lenses in salt.

Had some Revant lenses for my half jackets a few years back. They seemed as good as the originals but I lost one side after it fell out. Don't know if it was me fitting them wrong or the lense. I'll give them another go through.

I’ve got some Revant lenses for my Half-Jacket 2.0’s and they’re persimmon photoreactive.
TBH they’re not perfect, the ‘hook’ part of the lenses wasn’t properly shaped to fit into the frame. I had a second pair made, and they weren’t much better, but some very careful work with a fine round needle file improved the fit enough for the lenses to stay in place.
There’s another company called Sunglass Fix, who do a wide range of lenses, I had some made for a pair of Arnet Ravens, which were a perfect fit, they also do lenses for Arnet Dogs, originally called Black Dogs, and I’m going to get some for a pair that the frame has broken on, I’m going to try to do a fix but the lenses would go into one of my other two pairs.
I think they do Half-Jacket 2.0’s, it might be worth checking them out as an alternative.

+1 for Sunglass fix. Perfect fit, reasonable price. Long-ish lead time from Australia.

I thought the whole point of buying Oakleys was for their lens quality? Why would you pay three figures for a set of sunglasses and then fit third-party lenses? I'd have thought you'd have been better off with Oakley lenses and knock-off frames. Am I missing something here?

Sublime Optics. Oz based but they arrive in about a fortnight. I've bought several polarised lenses for various Oakleys. They're very good.

Firstly cougar, i paid nowhere near 3 figures for them originally.iirc it was after a PSA here and I paid about half of 3 figures. secondly, yes my assumption is Oakley lenses best all others and I can find simple black iridium for a fair price so I'll probably get them. With something as popular as Oakley, it seemed worth asking though, particularly if a cheap brand was decent enough to make getting a silly colour to try a non painful experience....I'd likely only try a bright colour occasionally.... Most of the year I know I'd look a dick in bright blue or green iridium....I forget this possibly 3-4 days a year 😉

I've had a couple of sets of lenses from Ebay, Lensmill I think it was. Their adverts have a small metal face in the pictures anyway. Are they as good as new Oakley originals? Dunno, but they are definitely better than the scratched up original lenses that came out of my 1993 Frogskins and early noughties Monster Dogs. 🤣

Long-ish lead time from Australia.

We're pretty buggered at the mo. Covid really affecting Eastern States. Not so much here in WA (6 cases!) but borders are closed between states and the truckies have been striking too. Even ordering things from over East can take 2-3 weeks to arrive in WA!

They're not scratchproof. The quality is great, but there's no diamond ceramic coating on them dude.

Also, you're assuming 3rd party lenses are sh!t?

Have you talked to Oakley about your lenses? Mine did a similar things about seven years after I bought them, but customer services had no hesitation saying that they were delaminating and offered me a replacement pair of glasses FOC. Might be worth an email?

Cheers lcj, I had thought about it but no more, I'll get on to it. Having read reviews on several cheaper lenses a common theme is the mirror coating or iridium coating failing due to salt water. It's made me think it's sweat caused iridium failure
