Was at the work's Christmas do last night and it was an 80s themed 'bring a party to a party' thing with fancy dress. All good fun, but the trouble was that the DJ played dreadful music. All the tackiest stuff like Kylie, songs from Grease, Wake me up before you go-go... twice!!! (no excuse for two tunes the same imo). Surely there was some good stuff from the 80s that would have had the whole place up and dancing.

What would be your suggestions?

I'm well old enough to remember,.. just wondered what others would put.

I'd have had The Smiths (actually very dancy even though everyone thinks they're miserable), The Cure, The Eurythmics, even some Bananarama and Dexy's for more mainstream. No Come on Eileen FFS, what kind of 80s party is that?!! No Adam Ant, No Cyndi Lauper.

I'd have had the 12" of Blue Monday just to wind people up... 🙂

SDC? Bit obscure for an 80s theme party. The Cult maybe, everyone knows Rain and She Sells Sanctuary.

Echo Beach; anything by Pretenders; Cocteau Twins. Goth it up with Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim.bring it back to commercial with Billy Idol. Siouxsie and the Banshees

Are those serious suggestions for duran duran as being non naff? I mean really they epitomise naffness.

However I did have a twang of nostalgia for Aztec camera and have just purchased high land hard rain on itunes.

God Stuart! I'm having flashbacks to the Golf Club discos with all the 6th yr boys jumping about in a circle with their arms over each other's shoulders to Fields of Fire and Loch Lomond (the one that ends with the Gaelic bit).
I'm amazed no one was mown down walking back to town along that road...

80s music "naff" tag is undeserved IMHO...

Some good stuff ^^

Now, how to suggest some non-naff stuff 😳

Husker Du
Pixies
Pogues

Ok, trying too hard..

No 80s disco complete without...

Simple Minds - Ghostdancing / Alive & Kicking / Don't You...
Billy Ocean - When the Going Gets Tough
Jam - A town Called Malice

and soooo much more 😳
