Admittedly it is very easy to drop the spoon when eating them on 'normal' rides out.
Pork Powerbar otherwise known as the large Sausage Roll, pasties are ace too. Something you can eat without guilt after riding for a couple hours and also ideal when you stomach rebels against something sugary.
I just eat "food" - weird eh?............ anything under 4hrs i don't bother eating but if i'm out for longer then whatever shop i find that is open will have something to eat if i feel the need, I stay in Galloway so there's not many shops where i ride anyway, considering i'm probably carrying a few extra kg that i could do to lose i'd prefer my body to burn fat as fuel - then again i don't care a fig how fast i ride these days so if my average speed drops due to the bonk i couldn't care less - i'll get back home eventually.
Ham sarnies usually
I've been experimenting with food from your average French supermarket.

A couple of the lads who I ride with have started started stopping at the bacon butty van and having bacon, sausage and egg in a tray minus bread, one guy actually bucked up from a serious bonk and then led the ride for the remaining 20 mile, I normally suffice with a handful of raisins, nuts and some dried figs.
Dried bananas, chocolate, nuts

Just done an 80m road ride powered by two macaroni pies. I'd normally have cheese and onion pasties 😛
