My Dad got taken ill with pancreatisis recently and has been told he cannot drink alcohol anymore. He's been a regular as clockwork 2 pints a night man since I can remember. I'd Like to get him some nice non-alcoholic beer for chrimbo that tastes like beer.

I've been testing stuff. The Erdinger alkoholfrei tastes horrible. Kopparberg-free just tastes like sugary pop.

erm, that's as far as I've got tonight. and I don't wanna try anymore 😛

any ideas? can you get alcohol free red wine?

cheers

I love non-alcoholic malt but not sure that is everyone's cup of tea.

Supermalt at Tesco ...

if he likes bottled beer, I can recommend non alcoholic Becks, exactly the same bottle apart from a slightly different coloured label and tastes exactly the same as the aclcoholic version.

Of the few I've tyred, the only alcohol free larger I'd have again is Cobra zero. I was quite surprised having tryed some really poor efforts how close to the normal beer this was! Try a bottle for yourself and see what you think?

The alcohol free Kopperberg Pear Cider tastes essentially the same.

Didn't like Cobra much, thought there was a bit soapy aftertaste. Becks Blue though I thought was excellent.

+1 for becks, it's lovely. Hope your dad is ok. There are also some nice booze free mulled ' wines' around if you want festive drinkies. Most supermarkets do them. Cobra is pretty minging, I think kronenburg (sp?) do one to but not sure what it's like

Alcohol-free wines are much better than they used to be . . . or maybe I've just forgotten what real wine tastes like

Anyway, the FRE wines (red, rose and white) at Asda are worth trying

The alcohol free Kopperberg Pear Cider tastes essentially the same.

ie. sickly sweet. Wife (who is temporarily off the pop) reckons Tesco's own low alcohol cider tastes pretty close to the real thing though.

I've tried the Cobra one, and it tastes impressively like lager, but just doesn't feel like an alcoholic drink. Not sure you'll find anything that's worth having TBH.

Cobra is the best IMO, but it needs to be cold to enjoy it.

How about a Psychological and Tonic? Best made with Fever Tree tonic water, which is superb.

All my best to the old chap, as well.
