Afternoon all
After a 12 year career of washing countless loads of cycling kit, and other washing, our LG Machine has started making quite a racket. Here we go with the video:
The noise starts at around 1min30. I don't think its the drum or the motor as the noise can be heard when the drum is stationary. Is it the pump? No water is being pumped out of the machine when its making the noise.
Ta in advance.
It sounds as if (not saying it IS this!) there are a couple of dozen ball bearings in the gap between the tub and the drum, that are put into motion when it rotates and fall down onto the drum. The noise doesn't start until the drum moves, it stops briefly the first time the drum reverses, but on reversals after that it only starts to diminish before the rotations starts. It's also muted by water in the tub.
What happens if you rotate the drum by hand with the machine off?
Are there any plastic baffles in the drum, and are they removable?
That sounds very similar to the noise a plastic button and hairclip make when they get caught in the filter on a Hotpoint washing machine. I cant see the model details, but mine is located behind a kick board style of panel on the front of the machine and is a ten second job to remove/check replace...
That video is strangely compelling but I couldn't manage all 7 mins of it. Without spoilers could someone tell me if it is worth watching to the end?

You will never believe what happens! Watch to the end!

Here's what happens when I rotate the drum by hand:
Noisy Washing Machine 2 - The Return
No noise at all, sounds nice and smooth.
Even more reason to be looking for the pump filter as that also mirrors my symptoms.....
LG Filter check-clean
Here's mine:

Clean as a whistle.
I'm 99% sure it's the pump. If I put my hand on the filter with the machine running I can feel the filter cover vibrating at the same frequency as the rattling noise.
possibly something got into the pump? Ihave had this several times
I think its something in the outlet of the pipe . The pump doesnt generate enough force to eject it , so it bounces around between the impeller and the drain
Most washing machines pump out via a long flexi that exits at the top of machine and i reckon there is something either in this line, or its a 5p in the volute of the pump being bashed around by the impellor
I came to this thread purely on the basis of the title. Is disappointed...
Have you lost any keys. That's what I found in our pump
Nothing missing from the household as far as I tell.
Replacement pump inbound from Espares. Once I've got the machine apart I'll check the current pump / pipe for any debris and if the new pump isn't required hang onto it until it is required or send it back to Espares.
I'll report back with my findings so that some / all of you aren't laying awake at night wondering about the outcome.
In the meantime here's another soporific video for you. Train related this time:
Cheers all.

Afternoon all.
Finally got round to dismantling the washing machine to replace the pump.
With the old pump removed I gave the main outflow pipe from the drum a wiggle and the following emerged:
a Pound coin
2 50p pieces
Charles Tyrwhitt colour stiffener
A collection of safety pins
No wonder it was making so much noise!
And you're now £2 better off than you thought 🙂

Straight into the ice cream van fund, for the purchasing of ice creams not an actual van.
Rather than start a new thread I thought I'd revive this one. I'll spare you the video...
Is a washing machine drum supposed to be solidly attached to the drive pulley? I'm pretty sure the answer is "yes". But mine isn't any more.
Mid spin it started making a lot of noise. Once it had stopped it won't now turn the drum. I've got the back off and I can turn the drum by hand without the drive pulley moving. And I can move the drum up and down without the outer drum moving. I don't think that's normal, or repairable other than a complete new drum but if anyone can confirm?
