My youngest lad is going to be 5 next month.. AFAIK he's up to date with standard hearing tests, but the little bugger conducts the majority of his conversation at ear splitting volume. .

Normal for a rambunctious little shitfox or cause for concern?

I get concerned when my kids are quiet. It usually means they're either ill or have done something naughty.

For 5 years 'Indoor voice please!' was the most used phrase in our house.

Normal. But if worried ask for another hearing test, better to be told he's a rambunctious little shit fox than find out in a few years time he's missed hearing half his school lessons.

Whisper quietly 'would you like chocolate for breakfast'

If you get no reaction get his hearing checked

The youngest are always foghorns. Totally normal.

I think you've got away lightly there anyway as boys have a more tolerable pitch. My daughter has the pitch of Kate Bush, and the volume of a foghorn.

As above: "Indoor voice, please."

Failing that, Led Zeppelin at full whack often sorts it.

just give him a good back hander and again if he starts crying, that'll learn him.

Glad to hear it's not just ours, our wee one is tiny, blonde and looks utterly angelic but by crikey she rattles the windows when offended!

Can I publicly apologise to our fellow forumites and neighbours. The noise through our wall must be terrible. Sorry mate.

As above - one of my most said phrases recently to our 3 year old is - 'Little voice, please.' She does respond, for about 2 minutes, and then it's back to foghorn levels.
She's currently playing with the cat at the opposite end of the house and I can hear every word!

🙂 yup sounds familiar !

Enjoy it you'll miss them when they are gone (maybe not at first but certainly after 5 years or so)

This thread reminds me of discretely trying to wild camp with junior. Someone suggested playing Led Zep loud, don't, before long he'll be playing Led Zep Riffs on a guitar through a 150W amp and you need to be on the moral high ground when you insist on him using headphones.

Sudocrem ?

If it was quiet I'd be more worried.
Sudocrem and associated creams are now kept out of reach due to seeing that thread!

Could be an attention seeking tactic, he's learned that he gets more SHOUTING.

Standard Issue 5 year old - it's when they're quiet you want to be worried.
