Noisy drain ideas!

Hello all, so outdoor drain has pipes from kitchen sink / dishwasher drain in it. Issue is there is quite a large fall where pipes enter the cover to the drain exit underground and hence the bloomin thing is really noisy and gurgles all the time water is flowing. Must be 400mm drop. Could extend pipes closer to floor I guess or was wondering if there was such a thing as a drain baffle / insert or something that could stop water falling straight down?

What a fun topic for bank holiday Monday

Cheers!

Are you sure the pipes are clear? have you tried wanging a bottle of drain cleaner down it?

Our drain from the sink and washing machine gurgles when the outside drain is blocked. In normally poke it with a stick.

Hey guys cheers for replies so far - yeah def no blockage, full large bucket of water dissapears pretty much immediately... Seems to be just noise of water falling vertically into the bottom of the drain! Bad design... Might stick an elbow to divert water to hit the sides of drain slowing it down.... But was wondering if there was a better solution (maybe the pipes are not actually long enough and should stop a inch or so above the bottom of drain!

Does it gurgle equally for sink waste or dishwasher waste? Or just when the dishwasher waste is pumped in? You could try an air admittance valve somewhere past the sink trap. If it's literally the sound of water hitting the drain itself, I suppose you could try a swept bend at the bottom if you can fit it in.

Temudgin - thanks... Not sure that will work as diameter of of soil pipe is 110mm - but something like that would cap it and allow pipe to feed through - might shut it up a bit!

Martin - both dishwater and sink. Pipe does have a 45 degree fall but then pops through the drain cover vertically. Then there is a decent drop to the floor of the soil pipe. Gurgling is probably the wrong word - it's more gushing water noise so I think it's the force of the water exiting into drain rather than air? Have 3 drains around the house and they all make noise to a degree but the one I want to shut up is right where we sit in the garden.

Cheers!

Temudgin's idea is a good one in that case.

Ah yes they do a 110mm version (cheers for linky) so temudgin idea may very well be a good thing to try! Even if it muffles the sound a bit that will help. Cheap enough to give it a go!
