The office, the natural home of a daytime stw browser, is no longer safe since you added the video ads that blare out with no mute option. Even worse, if you touch them to try and mute you get redirected thus making them appear successful... (Android on chrome)
[Mod] apologies and it has been reported.
Options:
turn your sound off
put some headphones in
pay membership fees
Also, the STW podcast adverts are about double the volume of the podcast!
Why would deafening me make me want the product more?
Paying membership fees does work, you'll still get logged out every hour and they keep reappearing 🙁
Weird, doesn’t happen to me
Autoplay video is a browser setting (usually, your browser may vary). I turn off as many "do shit automatically" options as I can.
I've seen this a lot recently, mainly because I seem to have returned to daily log in per device.....seeing how the other half live is a salutatory reminder that P membership has online perks aside from the spiffing mag.

This is becoming a thing in podcasts like it is on telly. You have the volume set correctly and the adverts make you jump out of your chair.
For someone who only listens to podcasts in bed, while falling asleep, it's particularly infuriating. It should be illegal.

Doesn't really matter because the site has the memory span of a goldfish when it comes to keeping you logged in.

The video doesn't autoplay, but the ~15 second advert before it still does.
Presumably if I also paid a subscription to youtube then this site would be more user friendly.
Sorry about the noisy ads. There shouldn't be any. All our settings are set to play ads muted. Something has glitched with our Ezoic ad provider and I'm chasing them up now.
The ad volume in the podcasts is another third part ad provider that injects them. We just record the podcast and leave a space for them in the edit. It's a traditional tactic of audio and video ads for the creators of the ads to crank up the volume as it gets your attention. TV ads are often much louder than the actual programme for this same reason. Also, radio ads. It's just an annoying thing we have to put up with. When I edit the podcast I always try to get the levels as high as I can without peaking in the red in order to minimise the difference in volume with any loud ads that get injected.
I'll report back when I get some good news on the video ads that need fixing to be muted.
So, an 'adjustment' has been made. Can you report here if it's still happening?
still happening @mark - logged out, pre Giant Utah Launch video advert, up to date chrome on a macbook (can't change many settings as work laptop)
sorry!
Yup. Noticed it's not fixed. I've sent this up the chain to the techs at Ezoic. They are looking at it now.
