Looking for recommendations £100 maximum please.

No idea about these things but would like rechargeable ones if possible. Wireless would be nice but not not really a necessity. Do not want Bose or Beats or shiny bling.

In or over ear is a common starting question.

You've said you don't want Bose and their out of your budget anyway, but they really are the best at the noise cancellation game.

Maybe have a look at Audio Technica?ive found them good value and their NC is meant to be on the better end of the spectrum for the price.

My colleague has Cowin from Amazon (I think). Audio quality not as good as Bose etc but noise cancelling still extremely effective.

I asked the same thing a few weeks ago:

I reckon it's between the Lindy and the Sony that can be had for around £80.

AKG ones for around £70 if you can do without noise cancelling.

At your budget the Philips ones are ok

Philips SHB8750NC Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones - 32mm Drivers, Closed Back, Compact, Folding , On-Ear Soft Cushions https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01LOS9N3G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_VeZqAbBGRE69Z

Make sure you get the 8750's as the 3750's look identical and whilst cheaper are not as good.

That said it depends in what environments you want to use them and for what reason you what NC.

At £100 you're not going to get to near silence and a good well fitting pair of non-NC headphones may be better in many respects.

I commute daily to Manchester on the train and wanted as close to silence as possible which meant Bose QC35's were a no brainer. Musically they're ok (and note at home I listen to £2500 headphones driven by a £1k dedicated headphone amp so they're up against tough competition) but the noise cancelling is simply the best going. Even a gaggle of cackling women are reduced to almost nothing - wouldn't commute with anything else.

If you did decide to blow the budget then the Sony WH1000XM2 are the same price as the Bose but some people prefer them. Musically they are a little better and the noise cancelling very nearly as good. I didn't like them as much as the Bose and the previous model had build quality issues and it's unknown yet whether this issue has been corrected.
