I've not had one for about 5/6 years, I don't think TV ever got in the way of my cycling or other sports, the way my job works I only tend to be at work 4 out of 7 days. I do get out to the pictures a fair bit for films and the theatre, but I download a few of the american TV series and a bit of stuff on iplayer, get to the pub for sport on tele. I very rarely say no to anything socially, even stuff I don't think I'll fancy, but most things turn out to be a laugh. It probably helps that I'm single with no kids.

I rarely watch TV apart from the news, but I wouldn't be without one for DVD's, I watch maybe one a week, but it has to be with no disturbances & with the AV gear on. I used to get sucked in to the series thing where you had to be in front of the box at a certain day & time, no more, I'm a free man now.

I would say the above is voluntary, but just wait until you have 3 women in the house, you never get to watch what you want for their love of soaps 🙁

There's not much to miss, just "celebrity" stuff. some "good stuff" soemetimes, but I can get that all online... as soon as this bloody plusnet gets up to speed. Everything is available online now, that means choice. forget the telly.

you won't miss much but if you keep the tv you have the choice of watching or not.

Didn't have one for five years. Didn't miss it.

Very occasionally there is something decent on but I'm easily distracted and 'I'll just sit and watch this for half an hour' can waste a whole evening. Much better to remove the temptation.

Could manage without a radio though, although easy to do other things while listening. TV is too distracting.

I hardly watch broadcast TV, I watch DVDs but I find they don't soak my time the same way, it takes a bit of input to put on a DVD rather than just turning on the TV and vegging out.

I like my TV. I have it on as a radio with added pictures should I care to look at it while I'm doing stuff. I rarely actually sit and watch it unless I'm too knackered to do anything more useful.

have no live tv and internet is a bit slow for streaming. I do however download what I want to watch & watch it when I want. Watch less & do more as a result I think

growing up we lived in a tv-less household until I was 16. Best thing my parents ever did; I was a lot better read than my peers for starters and I can't say I felt like I was especially missing out on anything.

If I could prise my wife away from her Eastenders + Holby City addiction I'd gladly go without.

I don't have a TV, probably helped by the fact I live in France and I think French television is awful.
I manage to live without it, keep up to date on the internet and spend more time chatting with people

Will need to get something to watch Le Tour on come the summer.

actually, you don't know what you were missing out on...

If I could prise my wife away from her Eastenders + Holby City addiction I'd gladly go without.

I'll agree I don't see the point of soaps

haven't watched TV for almost 14 years. I pop a DVD in the pc sometimes if I want to watch something.

I get all the news I want by reading off the net.

Rather be listening to radio 4 (Archers Omnibus please) reading, or spending quality time with the family or riding the bikes.

I've been without a tv for over 4 years now and don't miss it at all. I have a radio for keeping in touch with news and I read and listen to music for entertainment and relaxing. I am never ever bored and really don't have any desire to have a tv. If you love film, then you can always watch dvds on the computer I guess, although the money saved from not paying for a license can be spent going to the cinema of theatre.

If you think you can do without one then you might as well. It's a good financial saving.

I actually view time watching the TV as well spent !

I've got a very short attention span for non interactive mediums.

When I do manage to watch TV for more than 5 minutes with out flicking it means theres something I really want to watch on.

Also I very easily get addicted to computer games, so sometimes I'd rather watch TV because after 10 mins or so I'll normally get bored and wonder off to do something useful about the house.

Where as if I start playing CIV IV or something I'll find several hours have gone and I've not done anything I wanted to.

Also if I do watch TV for any length of time I tend to feel well rested, however if I start playing computer games I'll feel tired/groggy afterwards from the concentration bit like a long motorway drive.

Only use the TV for watching dvd's, very rarely anything I'd watch on broadcast TV so no great loss. Saves you 150 quid a year as well!

My Mac serves as my movie system, and when appropriate, TV (courtesy of iPlayer).

I have otherwise been TV-less for the last three years, and have absolutely thrived. As have my children. We all read more, play music more, and get on each others' nerves more.

It's great!
