Apparently we are up to Pia, I've lost count.

Nothing by proper Scottish standards but first serious wind disruption I've seen here in the Derby/Nottingham axis in 22 years.

Lots of roads blocked by fallen trees, a house in neighbouring village flattened by an oak tree - no one hurt - main street in Ilkeston closed as tiles blow off.

Was on the phone to my boss who was at home when a pergola blew through her patio window, bit of a shock for both of us.

Have your wheelie bins blown over?

No, but the door wreath was hanging on by a holly leaf this morning.

The air's in a bit of a hurry here, but nothing exceptional. It's only 40kts on the west coast bearing the brunt of the wind.

Lost a couple of baubles off the 15ft Xmas tree in the garden. Either my wife picked them up earlier, or they are somewhere down the road now.

Yea, just up the road to you in Kimberley. I knew it was a bad one when I watch the barbecue get steadily blown across the patio this morning. Loads of roof tiles misplaced round here and the dog walk this morning felt riskier than normal!

I'm near Alf-ton...

Fence between me and my neighbours has gone.

Not surprised though - it was rotten and on my list of things to sort next spring.

Greenhouse roof vent was merrily flapping away this morning so duck-taped that down.

Quite a few broken plant pots.

Loads of trees down according to local 'spotted' FB groups.

ours still upright but neighbours wheelie bin blown over I would upright it, but she is in but she has previously told wife the putting bins out and taking in is a "blue" job ie her husbands task she only does "pink" jobs. Must be fun in that house

Does your neighbour still live in 1954?

Just properly breezy here [Chester] but the wind turbines are spinning nicely and Octopus will be paying me to switch on as many heaters as I can tonight!

Just winter weather innit, pretty foul here, windy, raining, dark, standard December weather, don't think it deserves it's own name.

One thing I do know is if I were not as far down the fitness scale as I currently I would be weiging up risk vs reward of taking a crack at the KOM on a local hill. Good tailwind today!

Picking up someone else's used sanitary items and other assorted rubbish from my front garden this morning was not enjoyable.

Walking my 7 year old back from school later on may also be interesting, no doubt will be equipped with all sorts of non-weatherproof end of term items.

No idea how windy it is in the Lakes but my daughter has just sent me a photo from the top of Catbells!

She's gone away for a few nights with two friends for her 21st.

I told her to stay low and touristy but what do old duffers know!

At least the two she's gone with are experienced on the hills, and being a groom she's used to shit weather.

I've no idea how we got to P so quickly. Has the threshold been lowered?

Lots of warnings overnight with trains and ferries cancelled but not even an averagely windy day here. We're doing a half marathon in the forest later. I guess we might need to watch out for a few fallen branches.

Windy and pelting it down in Rochdale.

No damage so far (though the wind blew out a fence panel last week and blew the garden gate fixings off the wall) but the bins are now safely in the garage after being blown over with an almighty bang about 0430.

Couldn't fly a kite here in the west of Ireland. I've known storms that would lift me after my Christmas pud.

There are many different systems operated by different countries. This one was first named by Denmark (in Greenland), they may have more storms than us in Arctic territories.

I should be clearing the highways of Nottinghamshire of fallen trees. Instead I'm at home with COVID not infecting the rest of the team just before Christmas. They can thank me later. There have been quite a few trees down to be fair.

Feel a bit sorry for the passengers of a flight from Luton to manc this aft, took 1hr 45, pilot had a couple of goes at landing, then diverted.

Back to Luton.

No flights here, helicopters cancelled , ferries cancelled, rerouted.  My mother is visiting so I took her out to show the difference between a stiff breeze in the UK, and one in Norway.

Last storm we ended up with a 190 kilo rock in the back garden ( a bending tree pushed it out of a wall) -don't need that again.

On the other hand, WTF were they flying from Luton to Manchester anyway?

A swift google suggest as 3 hour public transport time. Even faster if we were building HS2..... Surely that is faster than flying?

Flight time is about 40 mins normally, obvs not including check in etc. assume it’s used for folk going on much longer haul out of Manchester?

Currently on the west coast of Denmark, saw text on the tv yesterday saying Pia causing disruption and thought it was this person acting up https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pia_Kj%C3%A6rsgaard

Its a bit breezy at the moment but supposed to reach peak here in the next hour.

We out in the Peak in the camper. Last night was a bit windy as the van was side on. Turned it this morning to face into the wind.

Been out walking in the wind and rain most of the day and in some of the gusts nearly blown over. Walking the trails are like walking in a stream

Slightly blustery in Northampton, it's blowing the litter around nicely.  I'm camping tonight and was hoping to have a fire but I don't think that would be a great idea.  I'll find a pub with a fire instead.

Sideways action from Manchester

I was on an early flight out of there this morning and we definitely went slightly sideways as well as up.

I see some flights later on were delayed or cancelled so it looks like my holiday getaway was done just in time!

Creating a bit of chaos here with people trying to get off and on the island with ferries. Ferries to Coll/Tiree and Outer Isles cancelled and alongside  in Oban which creates problem for other routes docking. Even the sheltered route Fishnish-Lochaline cancelled due to the weather and doesn’t look like it’s going to calm down for a few days either so. Also means there’s a bit of a siege in the CoOp as folks fight over the last Brussel sprout due to no deliveries from the mainland/can’t get to supermarkets in Oban.

I got to work near Solihull at 7:30 this morning to find the whole business park powerless, no streetlights, emergency lights only in the various office blocks. The power was back on an hour or so later, although it took us a bit longer to sort out access to get at the distribution board to reset a trip that put power back on to a couple of servers, switches and a router. And to get the UPS charging back up again - it had stopped playing ball when it fell to 6%. Good job there were only 7 or 8 people in the office instead of the normal cohort of 70 or 80 on a Thurs. Other than that - just a bit blowy all day.

Not massively damaging here but very sustained, definitely more stuff knocked around here than I've seen since Arwen.

Also it figured out how to make my letterbox knock which is super annoying when you're waiting for christmas gifts to arrive!

The house/tree interface in my OP has been on national news.

Two more trees there have come down across the road, but missed houses. MrsMC was going to walk that way to the pub 50 yards along for a meal with friends tonight - now a 5 mile diversion to get round. One of the friends is driving them in a Landrover.

We drove from Peaks to Leeds. Lots of trees down. Coffee shop we stopped at lost power as we were mid ordering so that got abandoned. Big Depo climbing wall in Leeds shut due to wind damage (so stopped at wall in Sheffield). Got home to find we are only one of about 4 hours on our street with power and ongoing sound of house alarms. It’s certainly been a bit feisty but thought drive home was potentially going to be much worse.

It worked out well for us overall. Day trip to Glasgow, the train out was 61 minutes late, due to slow running under the wires, we’ll get a full refund of the ticket price, then, our return train was cancelled (15:08), next one was the 17:07, so we again will get a full refund, and the 2 hours extra gave us time to walk around the nicer bits of Glasgow and time for 2 drinks around Merchant City. I would have thought differently if we were on a deadline to get somewhere, and get home earlier, but we were in no rush today.

Apparently a few trees down around here, we were due to do our Christmas drinks trip to Newcastle on the train today. But we decided to drive instead in case of issues, just as well as hardly any trains running and those that are they are running hours late.

Bizarrely Newcastle wasn’t very breezy.

Castleton has been In  the dark since around six this evening but it looks like the power is back on at the moment.

Felt sorry for the families who had travelled to see the Christmas lights as the town was dead

Yes - I'm getting really fed up of these storms!!

Side-topic: Anyone use the Windy app? It seems to predict mild wind here (Nothumberland coast) tomorrow (Thursday) whereas all the other forecasts are for more gales 🙁

Awful here in Seahouses, Northumberland. Heavy rain and 50kt gusts.

Windy and Met Office giving similar forecasts for tomorrow, both about 15 to 20kts, with 35 kt gusts.

Not impressed - fence has just blown down - grr.

In fairness I do live in top of a hill and the fence has been on its way out for a few months - I was just being lazy and waiting for nicer weather to put new posts in.

Only real problem is the farmer has just filled the field with sheep so I'm gonna have to bodge something in the rain and wind. Probably a lesson to be learned there somewhere... 😁

On the windy app the default setting is for average wind speeds, if you toggle the little air sock on the right hand side you'll see wind gusts - often gives you a better understanding of the conditions.

Went out on the bike; outbound leg was a bit grey and murky. 2 miles from home wind got up and driving rain. Being blown sideways across the cobbles wasn’t much fun. Glad I had my lights on…
