I accept that I have many small and petty obsessions, but I hope that none of them drive my life like they do for this guy. Though impressed that the council readily agreed to paint it white.

In Larkhall an area with a higher than average Glasgow Rangers support ,they persuaded the cable company to repaint all of the junction boxes blue instead of the green they are in every other town and city.
This and many more green protests are a regular occurence.

saw this on the local news. The bigger problem was that the council just rocked up and painted loads of houses random colours; blue, pink, grey without any consultation. I'd be pretty nonplussed meself, the United link is just a comedy spun to make it seem more newsworthy

It's normally a response from a Man Utd hater, is there a noun from jealous?

I am a Man Utd fan, hve been pretty much my whole life and used to visit Old Trafford regularly for games, yet because I live in Madrid I'm not allowed to support them! 🙄

I live in a housing association owned house. I'd be pretty pissed off too if they had the poor taste to paint it sky blue. It may be their house, but it's my home and I have to live there.

And that is the crux of the issue Flaperon......if you have a problem with that, you are indeed as you say - petty.

If you don't want this happening then buy your own house. The thing with council houses is that they are owned by the council, so they should be able to do whatever they want with them. If you think this is unfair think about how much money the majority of people have to shell out to buy there own house.

Angeldust, I would buy my own house if I could afford it and could get credit to do so. But seeing as my last house was repossessed a few months ago after I went bankrupt after my business failed I doubt very much that I'd get a mortgage. You are perfectly welcome to keep living in your own little utopian dreamworld though.

I would also suggest that you wouldn't know fairness if it came up and bit you on the arse.

I was born a mile from Burnden.
Lived for 26 years of my life around 2 miles away in various locations.

Do i support Bolton.

Do I F*** .
A sport for overpayed sh*t all over the true fan tossers in my humble opinion. and guess who pays their massive wages? The tossers who pay over a hundred quid for the family to watch these peacocks strut round a field for 90 minutes

But it doesn't surprise me that glory fairweather supporters exist, most of who couldn't find their arse with both hands, let alone Old Trafford.

It was the same when Liverpool was on top in the seventies.
If your gonna support someone, at least have some emotional attachment to the team.
Support your local pub team and watch them for free, watch 11 blokes playing thier heart out purely for the love of doing it, not for a house in Cheshire and a cop of Jordans t*ts..

AaAAAAaaaaaaarrrrgggghhhhh

Zulu, have you seen the pictures? Do the colours on these houses cause offence apart to some glory fan?
No.

How am I supposed to respect your point of view when you clearly don't like football?

I have seen the pictures and while not what i'd call offensive I'd be far from happy if someone painted my home that colour.

Whoever is on the top of the league at any given time, a glory fan will support them, and switch allegiance as soon as someone else gets to the top.

If you supported them pre fergusson when they were in the third division doldrums, then fair enough, but many havent.

And not actually being in Manchester, unlike City, i think its a bloody cheek to call themself man u...

And because i dont like football, dont assume i'm clueless.
I don't like the obscene amount of money detracting from the sport.

If i didnt own the house, and the landlord did his utmost to keep the estate / development in a pleasant and well kept aspect i'd be more then pleased.
I certainly wouldnt complain, nor would i consider myself to be in a position where it was fair too?

The guy doesn't want his home painted sky blue.

And if he is likely to still be living there by the time it comes up for repainting again, I can't see the problem with him having his preference.

BTW I think you'll find it's more than just about 'football' (although that's what obviously makes the story more interesting for the press) he also said :

"It is like segregation. Anybody that now lives in social housing in the area has got to have their house painted the same colour. In my eyes that is being stigmatised".

I agree with him. And his comments about "smurfland"

Read my above post, I've been a Man Utd fan for most of my life, George Best being the player who was the deciding factor for me, so yes pre Ferguson, so only about 40 years.
Lived in Manchester (Didsbury) and I've even been to Old Trafford.

Much the same as Mr Bowkett who

has supported Manchester United since childhood and went to his first match when he was four years old.

Apology accepted.

It's association housing. Same as council housing, they paint it whatever colour they choose. I spent a fair bit of my life living in council housing along with lots of other people and you put up with whatever colour the council chose, often dark green, and you didn't whine like a little girly about it because someone else was doing the work. It's only self-obsessed knobs like him who actually care.

Respect to the housing association for changing the colour, shame the tenant probably won't appreciate it.

When I worked for a council DLO about 25 years ago, tenants were always asked their preferred colour choices.

Granted it was very much a "One Nation" lefty Tory council, and I dare say not every council might have been quite so bothered about their tenants preferred choices.

IMO a house should only be painted in pastel colours if it overlooks the mediterranean sea 😉

otherwise, what's wrong with white?

(oh yeah, Leeds Utd play in white. MOT!)

There's a painter/decorator lives in Leeds, big fan of Leeds Utd. Will NOT use red paint, ever. Under any circumstances 🙂

Tomorrow I will be telling mrs julian that if she really really wants to put silly flower decals on our van, then I will be painting the house in the colours of the mighty Hornets in my week off next month.

I own my gaffe and i'm restricted to one colour for exterior woodwork, one for the front door and can't paint the exterior brickwork. Any work has to be done by or paid by me.

So what's his problem?
