my trusty ps3 is telling me as of 8th, Beeb are dropping iplayer off if it. Fair enough, ps3 is long in the tooth these days. So what next for iplayer? Chromecast? amazon fire stick? does the android iplayer app play nicely with one of these? or is there a better way? now tv box or? Or I guess maybe another PVR that does iplayer as well perhaps?

TV is a sony bravia which is possibly getting long in the tooth these days but I don't feel the need to upgrade that yet. current PVR is a panasonic and sems good ....although the better half does run it at a HDD permanently full of celebrity/reality trash state. Hence I guess another PVR wouldn't be a waste of money, otherwise I think a £30 chromecast type device seems good. Oh and we currently run netflix and amazon prime on the ps3 also, hope they don't go the same way soon....but maybe the new device needs to take them into account. Broadband is plusnet and very happy with it....not looked at adding tv...guess i probably could, although prime is an annual subscription due..err...January i think.
Oh and PS3 isn't used for gaming, never has been, its for dvd and bluray, loads of cds ripped to the hdd and the tv mentioned. updating to a..what is it...ps5? or some other box for bluray dvd and all the tv stuff is an option although I would rather pay £30...not the £500 i assume a PS5 costs

I use a now tv stick, cost about £15 and is perfect for iplayer, Netflix and YouTube. Sure its got Channel 4/5 and itv app on there too. I don't pay for any of the sky TV or movies packages.

If you have a Prime subscription you might as well get a Firestick and it’ll be a one-stop shop for all your streaming. I think the only thing you can’t stream on it is NowTV

hmm fire stick currently unavailable except for the 4k version. I don't have a 4k tv so £50 for that seems a little pointless, unless its far better than a £25 now tv stick in some way? I guess I need to think about the channels that we'd likely use...err iplayer obvs. itv, all 4 as they seem rubbish on the ps3, netflix and amazon prime would be good. that's the main ones I guess

Chromecast?

But different as it works off off the native apps through integration

So you’d be on the iPlayer/prime/youtube/Netflix/five/etc app and just hit the ’cast’ button and it sends that programme to the TV

Works great for me but I can see the appeal of having all services on one interface. Apple TV? I don’t really have any other input sorry

Chromecast is a bit of a faff having to go into your phone/tablet every time you want to watch something.

We have a now TV stick in the front room, which works fine for casual viewing. The resolution output isn’t great, but the tv seems to upscale it to 1080 without it looking awful. Only issue is no prime, but that’s still on PS.

We also have a 4K amazon stick in the 4K telly in the back room. That does look good, but functionally the only difference over the now tv stick is the addition of prime.

I prefer the amazon interface, but that’s just a personal thing.

The cheap Roku Express units are good. Nice simple remote, fast loading, support all the streaming services.

If you want a new freeview recorder then pick up one of the BT youview ones on eBay. Don’t need a subscription and they do iPlayer and the like. I really like how it all integrates with the TV guide so if there was a show 3 hours ago you wanted to watch you can go straight to it in the iPlayer (or all4 etc) from there.

Wait until the firestick is on offer. This happens fairly often. Pop a 4K one in your basket and save for later.

Roku is often recommended.

Just get a Firestick and a dvd player. It would be surprising if the Firestick is completely out of stock for long

Fab offer, I'f messaged you Dean.
a free one would take the pressure off and allow me to wait for an offer on the 4k one. Am i right in thinking its slicker/more powerful as well as being 4k? its £50 which doesn't seem bad, what is the offer price and is it often on offer?
Or the Roku premiere 4k one is only £40. the roku express hardly y seems worth it at only a tenner less, similarly the now tv box at £25...yep i reckon the roku premier or the 4k firestick if I an get that on offer.

now..can i set up an alert on amazon...i'm sure its possible ...but can I!
