I've read lots of people jumping on the pile-on to 'cancel' her, but not actually what she's said or done?

Anyone got a link to share?

I'm confused. Is she incensed at the younger lady without a mask or the older lady eating herself into a high risk covid category? Or both? And who is meant to be going for it?

Has she parked over a dropped kerb too?

Or tried to cross over the road to a bus stop on her Mums mobility scooter but hey, was blocked by a van.

And who is going for it?

Jambourgie apparently.

*I think* she’s been castigated for suggesting that it’s hypocritical of some members of society who apparently have self inflicted health issues to call out apparently healthier individuals who perhaps do not adhere to some of the COVID prevention activities.

I could be wrong though 🤷‍♂️

Kinda. She tweeted -

Sadly those of us who have genuinely tried to protect the NHS by looking after our bodies are paying the terrible price for those who have chosen lazy lifestyle choices.

It's unsure whether her tax-dodging was also intended to protect the NHS from, I dunno, adequate funding.

I saw the post, it was a tasteless and badly judged. But. There is a not completely unreasonable point hidden in there. The pile on seems unfair. I accept not everyone will agree with this.

Though agreeing with JHB is a ridiculous thing to do.

Over-privileged celebs criticising the poor is never edifying. Thank goodness for the informed likes of Marcus Rashford and Jamie Oliver who understand the relationship between poverty and health inequalities, which includes obesity. As for the mask issue, she clearly only has two brain cells and one is inhibitory.

Reads to me like she's simply saying that people who wilfully make themselves ill are costing the lives of people who are ill ,through no fault of their own, being forced down waiting lists while they get seen to.

That made me chuckle. Nearly bought an Escort Cabriolet back in the day.....

she’s simply saying that people who wilfully make themselves ill are costing the lives of people who are ill ,through no fault of their own, being forced down waiting lists while they get seen to.

I'd be interested to see stats for that, but I suspect data for excess deaths doesn't get broken down into sufficient detail

Without any understanding of why people are in that situation of course in a "If I am like this why isn't everybody like me" level of ignorance adopted by anyone with zero empathy.

Definitely but trying to turn it into a class war isn't solving anything. There's also a lot of unhealthy middle class people as well. Doesn't really matter what your income level is, will power, genetics and to a certain extent basic education are the defining factors on your health (although pretty much everyone knows being overweight, smoking and drinking are bad for you).

Yep,definitely doesn’t matter what your income level is when looking at poor diet choices

Results
Compared to lower income households, after adjusting for education, marital status and race, higher income households had significantly higher HEI total scores (mean [sd] = 68.2 [13.3] versus 51.6 [13.9], respectively, adjusted p = 0.05), higher total vegetable scores (mean [sd] = 3.6 [1.4] versus 2.3 [1.6], respectively, adjusted p < .01), higher dairy scores (mean [sd] = 5.6 [3.0] versus 5.0 [3.3], p = .05) and lower proportion of grocery dollars spent on frozen desserts (1% [.02] versus 3% [.07], respectively, p = .02).

Conclusions
Lower income households purchase less healthful foods compared with higher income households. Food purchasing patterns may mediate income differences in dietary intake quality.

In the UK, 1 in 3 children are now overweight or obese when they leave school with children from poor areas twice as likely to be obese. The prevalence of so-called “food swamps”, particularly in deprived areas, is making it increasingly difficult for children to access healthy food.

Because low-income people are both lazy and thick. The two things are not exclusive. Look at me, I am resourceful and active and bright. Click like and subscribe to make me popular, or be a hater and make me popular. It all works.

I'll admit to thinking that was aimed at me, possibly the furthest removed from middle class pampered as it's possible to get ! lol.

It is worse than being a troll, he actually believes it.

What, that I believe people who abuse their bodies, till they are unable to function and rely on services to enable them to carry on abusing themselves, are clogging up resources needed by others more deserving ?

I might, I might not, but that's my business. I am simply stating what the cartoon implies.

Kerning!!!

Made me laugh! I wouldn’t burn her though, even if she was oiled up.

Brads, I’ve heard your “differing opinion” aimed at mountain bikers many times before… “why should A&E/surgery be filled with these people who choose dangerous activities, increasing waiting times for those more deserving who have suffered injury thanks to less avoidable risks (driving/football/DIY/horseriding)?”

Being fit, active and trim doesn’t really protect you from Covid19… it may be a “risk factor”, but you don’t need to have that risk factor to contract or spread the virus, or to be hit hard by the disease it can cause. Mask wearing on the other hand can help protect you, and more importantly, others.

Ah, yes - I must remember, the Covid dead have brought it all on themselves for being fat biffers. Poor healthy people - what a burden, having to share oxygen with such lowlives. Should we organise a cull, do you think?

Kilo and your point is?

Obviously there's a correlation, but thats along way from causation. Are the only cheap food stuffs bad for you, can low income people only afford unhealthy choices? Are unhealthy processed meal options and takeaways cheaper than raw ingredients, I dont think so.

Pretty simple point I thought, you stated in response to my comments about food poverty that “ Doesn’t really matter what your income level is, ” and i provided some evidence that indicated that it did matter what your income level is.

Ok, my point was income level may be an indicator of poor lifestyle choices but its not limited to people on a low income or that a low income immediately means you will have a poor diet and health.

What you posted shows a correlation with poor lifestyle/health but that's all.

Being overweight is now a disease, like alcoholism. As I'm not addicted to either alcohol or food I can only empathise with both.

Anthea is indeed lovely looking and fit not to mention worth a few quid (by all accounts). But with that it comes an elitist viewpoint on everyone else (imo) and a lack of empathy.

Health has been directly associated with wealth.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/08/31/scotlands-poorest-and-richest-areas-revealed/

As has lots of other issues associated with poverty including, crime, lack of education, shorter life expectancy, health etc.

Someone posted this:

Much discussion occurred about what that person might mean.

The original Anthea Turner content was very much about Covid, unless the face mask was just coincidental.
