Many moons ago when I were a nipper (about 23 years ago to be a bit more precise) I was into my RC cars. I had a nice collection of both Electric and Nitro but they were all bought brand new. I've had an itch for another nitro car and just bought an HPI MT2 on the Bay of e. Could possibly be a silly mistake as I've not seen it and it's untested but it wasn't expensive (£70 including post). Now I now I'll probably need to change fuel lines, clutch bell and glow plug. But is there anything I should do before trying to run it? Description says there is compression when the engine is turned over but it's untested.
Its ag3s since ive been involved in this, but if its being sold by someone who isnt a user (has comoression but not run) then id be tempted to look at the entire fuel system. I appreciate its different to petrol but id probably try to service/ultrasonic clean the carb and new fuel, fuel lines and tank. It would just eliminate any dirt from longterm storage causing probs. A new air filter would be nice too. Some fresh fuel us also a winner!
Have fun!
Check the clutch as it would be unfortunate if it couldnt disengage and shot off when it starts.
There was also an rc car thread on here that seemed more electric based but loke lots of STW has a wealth of knowledge on it.
I cant remember if the silencer can be serviced/cleaned, but letting a motor breathe has got to be good.
Im not sure where you have to use it, but i have no tracks near me and the garden isnt suitable, so anywhere i could use it would generate complaints.
Im guessing this and the convenience of electric has seen the rise of LiPo so you can be a little stealthy.
Spray everything with wd40 to clear out old gunked up fuel would be my tip.
Take glow plug out, spin the engine many times to clear it out.
New glow plug and fresh fuel…should be screaming a treat!!
DrP
Spray electrical contact cleaner rather than WD40 as it leaves less residue for stuff top stick to perhaps?
Thanks guys. I have electrical contact cleaner from servicing model trains. God I'm turning into more of a dweeb as I get older 🤣🤣 Stamps next I think.....
Make sure the radio is on so you have control of the throttle. I started a nitro 1/8th buggy years ago without it and it revved itself to destruction in seconds!
I'd convert to electric first 😉
