Well, if you play them in a major key, they do...

Same song on a shovel.

Which coincidentally is what should be used on the face of the person that Teen Spirit in a major key was a good idea 😉

Even the most optimistic of music litigation lawyers would tell you to stop wasting their time! 🙄

THIS!!!

Have you heard the lyrics to the song...? A major key FFS?!?! 😯

I really liked it. SMTS is totally overrated anyway, this makes the song more cheery and closer to its inspiration, "More than a Feeling" by the seminal Boston.

Its doable.

Blink 182 and Nirvana are two examples of extremely average bands.

Easy.

....whereas Nirvana were a decent band, very much of their time, that would have largely faded into obscurity if the lead singer hadn’t shot himself.

Blink 182 were a bit of fun, got better as they went on. A bit like Blur.

Very much this. I loved blink when I was 16 because they were silly and immature like me. The last 3 albums have just been good. I’m surprised how well Matt Skiba has slotted in. Although him singing Tom’s parts live is a bit shit.

That's excellent, and I agree. Can I redeem myself with an old favourite?

SLTS is the only Nirvana I possess, I bought the CD single in Virgin on Sunset when I was in LA.
It can be argued that it was getting off with Courtney Love that gained Cobain and Nirvana extra interest, because Hole were already a successful band.
I remember seeing a tee shirt that said “Kurt Cobain dead? Nevermind”
Summed up my feelings.
Blink 182 were a bit of fun, got better as they went on. A bit like Blur.

Blink 182 were never as good as Blur even when Blur were just starting!

I think Nirvana were worth all the hype and more. Listening back and they sound great, with great songs, whether you listen to low-Fi subpop era stuff, nevermind or the unplugged stuff. Shows their ability. Nevermind sold a shitload more than Hole ever did so not sure the Courtney connection theory stands up. First time I heard SLTS on radio I stopped what i was doing and just listened it hooked me that much had same impact days and weeks later.

A personal thing but I’ll always feel a real connection to them cos of the impact Nevermind had on me.

Reminds me of the Polyphonic Spree cover of Lithium.

Blimey, I didn't realise threads from the 90s could still be bumped.

B flat Teen Spirit = Mudhoney

I love the whole major/minor thing, you have to sort of listen past the actual recording because it's always a bit broken, and hear what it'd be like if someone did a proper version. SLTS would be pretty ace I reckon.

Major Chord REM = late Idlewild.

I had a friend who was into the Polyphonic Spree a few years back. That video above makes me regret not having seen them live.

Losing My Religion seems less affected as a song by the minor to major change than Smells Like Teen Spirit is.

Well, R.E.M. were always a bit jangly and happy even when they were sad, so I guess it jars less on the ears

I do think I’ll struggle to listen to SLTS again though without imagining it in a major key.

Is anyone else thinking it sound more like elastica and wanting to scream into an oversized nokia?

"HELLLLOOO, HELLLLOOO YES, I'M ON A THREAD ON STW...............NO IT'S RUBBISH........................ THEY'RE ALL TRYING TO N-1 EACH OTHER WHERE N WAS THE PREVIOUS LEVEL OF MAINSTREAMNESS FOR A 90'S BAND.............................YES THAT MEANS S+1 IS THE LEVEL OF SHIT THAT YOU'RE PARTNER WON'T LEAVE YOU AT FOR SOMEONE WHO HAD A HAIRCUT AND USED DEODORANT FOR MORE THAN STIFFING IN THE 90'S"
